My model one did a floor dive as I took it off the shelf. Now it sounds like a metal maraca when i tilt it in any direction. When I boot it up, I only get the main screen which says "press start" which of course does nothing now. I was just wondering if there were any sites that address repair before I wrecklessly open it up. I know there are other Sega CD threads in this forum, but I didn't want to "jack" any of them. Any help would be very appreciated.

Search SEGACD in this forum, using the search function, and some tips will be revealed. I don't know about solutions to your specific problem, but some common fixes have been spelled out here.

Sounds likeone of your ribbon cables has come loose. The sega cd has a crap load of big magnets that sorround the ribbon cables in it. Sometimes they can yank the cable out due to momentum. If you lived close, id take a look at it for ya. Or if you want to sell the machine for parts then PM me as i have a few dead sega cd's that need some tlc (and parts!)

After reading the search results, I definitely overlooked some repair issues (thanks, omnedon). I'll dive back into my Sega CD in the next day or two & hopefully get everything okey-dokey. Berty, thanks for the offer, but the unit's pretty precious to me as my collection is pretty meager right now and I try to hold on to everything for dear life. ;)

True enough, Berty, it was the ribbon/magnet Issue, which opens up new questions for me. I don't know where the magnet was placed originally. I attempted to re-attach the ribbon cable to it's socket (without the magnet)but it doesn't seem to be sitting very securely at the connection. Anyone have any input/wisdom?
