Any one that may be tracking my moves lately (come on, I know you're out there) may be able to figure out what I've been up to in my *spare* time. Let's see:
- makes component video superguns
- been asking about 7.5V power supplies
- dealing with freaking sync signals
- looking to buy cheap, even dead, NGP/NGPC units
- buying PSOne LCD screens......
- joined the forums over at www.benheck.com

What could it be?

Hmm, looks like a supergun from the front (note that all images are clickable for bigger version):

And from the back:

Oh. Damn. No he didn't.

Wait a minute, that's an NGPC stick and buttons!

Holy shit, those are NG CD pad buttons on the back!

Hold the phone.... you can hold it?

How's the screen look though you ask? Like f'in RGB dude (pic doesn't do it justice):

Come on D, those are Photoshopped, right?
Nope. Teh real deal (warning, 6.1 meg AVI file) (http://www.multimods.com/images/MVI_5309.AVI)

Note that I'm watching my bandwidth, so once I see it climb too high I'm axing the video file. A mirror would be cool. And please PLEASE do not link the movie to other sites!!!!

So, what's the deal you ask? What is this *thing*?
OK, here are the features, broken down by category:

SuperGun:
- Fully functional supergun for play on TVs
- NeoBitz encoder inside for composite, S-Video, and component!
- adjustable RGB pots on back
- stereo/mono switch and audio attentuation circuit
- sync separator switch for finicky boards
- joystick ports wired for Neo with Atomiswave compat through button 5 on pin #2
- 12V and 5V through Jameco SC200 PSU

LCD:
- 5" diagonal RGB screen! Plays your JAMMA boards in native RGB mode!
- brightness adjustable with the same RGB pots on back
- hopped up brightness through shorting out the 100 ohm resistors on the controller (Neo Geo MVS is very dim on the Sony brand screen when this is not done)
- on/off switch such that it's not on when using the supergun functionality
- sync "charge" button: the button on the front grounds the sync signal using a 47 uF cap. This cures the slow rolling MVS screen some boards produce and works with PGM as well!
- you really have to see the image in person to see how clear it is

Handheld:
- NGPC control stick! Clicky greatness at it's finest
- NGPC buttons for A and B
- hybrid Neo CD pad/Genesis pad C and D buttons placed just where you index fingers will be while holding the unit
- Select and start buttons on the front
- headphone jack! Need to add a volume controller still
- can play 2-player by hooking up the joystick
- approx 3 foot length of JAMMA harness so you can rest the board on the table and have enough flexibility to move around

One remaining issue, that I'm nearly done fixing, is the need for two power supplies: for PCB/supergun and for LCD. Problem is the screen runs on 7.5V. I have a solution that is near complete such that you'll only need one power supply, but the second will be a switch controlled option.

Whatcha think :D ? This is somewhat like the famous Neo LT that was created a few years back, but with full JAMMA compat and also the controls built in

Thanks (I think.....)!
Perhaps more will be built in the future. I have screens and NGPCs to use. Just need to find the time :/

Unbelieveable, Dean. Just when I think you've done it all. It's good to see you teamed up with Ben as well - that's a match made in gaming heaven.

PS I want one :)

PPS I'm copying the movie file to our server so I'll have a mirror for you very soon.

Thanks Joe and Nate!

I actually haven't worked with Ben at all on this. I like the stuff he does and would love to do this with a custom case, but that's a bit off in the future. Some interesting stuff done at that site, but unfortunately no one really could help out with my questions on the PSOne screen, in terms of power and sync. Seems no one else had really solved these issues yet.

I'll definitely have one on hand at the CGE this year for people to try ;) and perhaps a few *available*

But this was more a labor of love. I build these things because I want to see the result. Funny thing was when I started thinking about a project with the LCD, it was going to be just a screen on an MVS board (which will still probably happen). But then I thought it'd be cool to play all sorts of JAMMA boards on it. And to have built in controls.

And hence the LoadedGun was born :)

thanks for the mirror too!

amazing....it looks huge until you see the pic with your hand in it, then you realize just how compact that is and how you got all of that to fit in one small box
