Cleaning a PS1 Nyko Trakball controller...

I've got a PS1 Nyko Trakball controller with dried rust on the trackball itself. What's the best way to clean/fix this problem? Should I take the controller apart to clean it and will it still work after I dismantle it?

I would say take it apart for the best results .

If the rust will not come off the ball try some light wet sanding paper or some brillo . That will make it nice and smooth.
