This one is always an easy question to answer for me. I know a lot of you out there just HATE unlicensed NES games, but for me, they are truly a work of an art. My favorite company in the unlicensed scene for the NES would definately be camerica. It seems to me that these guys actually knew what they were doing when it came to making a fun game (unlike countless color dreams and ave games). Camerica takes the nod for me and for the game... stunt kids.

There are TONS of levels in this game and it is actually quite an enjoyible play. Give it a shot if no one has. Other camerica games that get no respect are ultimate stuntman and bee 52.

What are your guys and girls favorite unlicensed companies and games for the NES?

The only one i ever had was called Pesterminator. I think you basically went from room to room killing bugs.... It was a long time ago. so I can't really be sure

Bee 52 is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time.
Ive heard it called a "generic shooter" , but screw that. ;) I find it unique and fun.Ive also had it so long I dont remember actually getting it.

I like Ultimate stuntman too.Im just not as good at it

Another vote for Camerica!!!

Holy Crap!I forgot about Wisdom Tree ;)
I really enjoy Wisdom tree games, especially King of Kings. That Camel game was one of my favorite games from my childhood.
To bad my cousin traded it and 75 other games for Speed- @_@

Heh, I always have fond memories of Color Dreams.

Raid 2020 and Baby Boomer are actually pretty playable. Kinda.

I've actually never played any Camerica games, but since most of the unlicensed publishers in the US were pushing total garbage, Tengen was my favorite of the bunch.

The NES version of Rolling Thunder is probably my favorite out of all their games. It's essentially a port of the legit Namco Famicom version, but it's a great game. It doesn't exactly look like the arcade game, but it plays just like it (with passwords!). It's one of those games that demands perfection. I like the idea of gaming as a skill.

Recently become a Tengen fan thanks to starting a NES Tengen collection and playing many their titles.

Out of all the unlicensed games I consider Tengen to have the best games by far, but I don't put Tengen in the same catagory as Camerica or Color Dreams though. I feel as though they had way more money to work with, and weren't as underground as the other two.
I like Camerica the best out of all the other Unlicensed companies, mainly because they made Micro Machines, which is a sick ass game!

Sachen. Rock Ball and Popo Team are pretty good puzzle games.

I have many good memories playing my tengen Gauntlet as a kid. Besides Gauntlet they have a lot of other good games also, Tengen Tetris being on of them. But once I started collecting, I discovered Camerica. I agree with you Qixmaster, it seems they had an idea on what they were doing, unlike the horrid games the people at color dreams made.

Active Enterprises and Action 52. I mean, 52 games on one cart! That's one hell of a deal, even for the 200 bucks it was going for! Oh wait...

Seriously though, it's Camerica and Micro Machines for me.

For Gauntlet, Rolling Thunder, and Klax, I gotta side with Tengen with this one. Color Dreams comes in as the runner-up, as I actually got some enjoyment out of Master Chu and the Drunkard Hu in my earlier years. :embarrassed:

How can you have an unlicensed NES thread with barely any mention of Micro Machines? MM is definitely the best unlicensed game ever made, and one of the best games on the system, period.

I also have to give mad props to Spiritual Warfare, and most of the Tengen library.

wow, that takes balls to admit that. it's on par with me admitting that i wear ladies underware....

did i say that. i don't wear ladies underware.. really.

I would also have to agree with Dr. Morbis that Spirtual Warefare is a great game (bible questions aside). Sorta plays out like The Legend of Zelda.

I forgot to mention whoever the heck made Impossible Mission II. That's a really great game! It's definitely for those who like to think, but it's lengthy and has a cool interface.

That game's developed by Novotrade, the same people who developed the first couple of Ecco the Dolphin games. There's really no similarities between those and IM2, however.

Chiller. Terrible game, terrible controls, terrible graphics, but oddly fun to watch other people try to play it. I have people come over just to play Chiller and laugh my ass off.

I always enjoyed Tengen games, I believe those were not licensed by Nintendo so I would have to say I loved playing Tetris, Super Sprint & Ms. Pac-Man.

Tengen all the way even though they had a fair share of stinkers, but they had Tetris, Pac Mans, Gauntlet, Super Sprint among others. Second would definately be Codemasters for micro machines and the dizzy series

Which company manufactured the Game Genie outside of Canada?

Anyway, my vote goes to Camerica's The Ultimate Stuntman. Had it actually been made, I'm sure that the Hellraiser game that Colour Dreams worked on would've been a strong contender.

Tengen had some pretty great NES games which I feel like mentioning, such as Swords & Crossbones, Pac Man, and Tetris.

First in line : Camerica
Second in line : Color Dreams

Micro Machines rocks hard, by far my favorite racing game on the system...and one of my faves all around. I'm also a big fan of Firehawk and Ultimate Stuntman too...

In the second category.......

Favorite unlicensed game is easily Tengen Tetris.

For whatever reason, I also enjoy the Wisdom Tree games, even though I'm an atheist.
