View Full Version : Brandish, Drakkhen and others... SNES

I recently ran into a few boxed SNES RPGs, bad ones, but still.
I highly doubt it, but I'm wondering if they are worth anything.
I've used the rarity guide but... I don't know...

Drakkhen
Brandish
Tecmo Secret of the Stars
E.V.O.: The Search for Eden

All with boxes and manuals. I have a suspicion that E.V.O. is worth more than the rest, but I got them all at around 6$ CDN each.

(Almost had MINT Secret of Mana with box, manual, map and even card, for 8$, but that's another story. I did buy FFIII (cart only) also, but that's also another pissoff story, for later, if needed.)

EDIT:

That would be my list. I'm curious about Lunacy, if that's sought after or anything?

Er... I should know this stuff, and I pick up games as I go that I do know about, but if i see a game that's cheap and iffy, I grab it.

Good philosophy? Possibly.

EDIT2: Hum, recognize a couple people from DCEmulation. More prominatly, goatdan. :)

Welcome to the boards. When you get a chance, introduce yourself in this thread:

As far as your question goes...I don't know much about those titles specifically, but we have an online rarity guide here which should help you out. You can find it towards the top of the page...heres a link:

Thanks you for both links.

I wasn't sure if I was going to introduce myself, but maybe I will now. :)

As for the Rarity Guide, I already stated that I checked that, but thanks again. :)

Heh...thats what I get for not reading close enough. Maybe I'm too used to people asking without checking the guide first. Anyway, hope someone can answer your questions.

Yeah, EVO boxed is pretty hard to find...I've been looking for one for YEARS myself. I refuse to buy it on eBay :D Probably worth a good $30-40 easy. THe other three aren't really worth a lot. Mint complete, Brandish is worth maybe $15-20, and less for the other two I'd wager.

Lunacy for the Saturn isn't very sought after but it's a neat game and it's fairly hard to find.

Thanks you.

Illusion of Gaia I also got, but cart only. Seems fun, but on eBay, cheap? Anywhere I go here that has it it's like up there with top class RPGs.

I guess it's all location.

Yeah, Illusion of Gaia doesn't fetch that high of a price usually. Its a great game though, you should keep that one for yourself.

I plan on keeping them all for myself. :P

This has become a minor obsession. When I get my cheque, I often spend more than I should on games. I'm pretty broke, so 50-70$~ CDN every two weeks is a lot. lol

I may be happy with my games, but it kills me inside slowly that they arn't organized properly in a good shelf/case/whatever. Stupid crumby bookshelf they're in now...

Oh well.

Thanks for your help. :)

Brandish doesn't seem to turn up very often, and it's a Koei RPG, so I'd say that it's likely worth a fair amount at least to Koei fans who know what it is.

You know, I've never even heard of another Koei RPG.

Hmmmm... I'll do some digging.

EDIT: *smacks forehead*

ROMANCE OF THREE KINGDOMS. duh.

The only other one that I know of for the 16BIT systems that was released in the US is Inindo, also for the SNES. There was a Brandish 2 & a Brandish 3 in Japan though. In fact, there were two different versions of Brandish 2 in Japan. I saw a factory sealed Brandish 1 on ebay a couple of years ago that went for $75. I wanted to bid on it myself, but sadly I didn't happen to have any money at the time, so I wasn't able to get it. And it still pisses me off too, because I haven't seen one since. So it doesn't seem to be common. It's probably something like an R3 or an R4. Not too rare, but not common.

ROTK is more like the typical Koei strategy game. That series is known as Sangokushi in Japan. But Brandish & Inindo are definitely true RPG's. I have Inindo, it's a great game. You play as a ninja on some kind of huge quest. I haven't played it in years, so I don't remember the whole story, but it's very cool. I never have played Brandish though. I always wanted to, but I never did. I am familiar with the story however. Basically it's just a big dungeon crawl with a bounty hunter on your tail the whole time. What makes it unique is the odd way in which you navigate the dungeons. Moving up or down works just like it does in most RPG's, but moving side to side causes the whole screen to instantly morph into the new view, as though you had turned, but without the rotation. I hear this makes it rather disorienting to play, which is why I had always avoided it back in the day, but now I wish that I had bought it when I had the chance, along with a few other RPG's, like Chrono Trigger. I still can't believe that I never bought that one either.

I looked on eBay, and it wasn't going for too much... hmm.. I don't know. I don't think I'd sell it anyways... Game is a bit weird to get used to, the way the screen turns and not you, but it might be fun... Once I get past first lvl and hopefully see something of a story line.

LOL See my edits above. And please let us know how it is. I'm very curious about it. I've heard that it gets quite intense at times, especially at the end.

BTW, Drakken is the prequel to Dragon View, and I believe that it was the very first RPG ever released for the SNES in the US, but I could be mistaken.

Not to nitpick, but people using "prequel" in place of "precursor" is one of my little peeves. A prequel is only something made after, but that takes place before!

...rant over!

Untamed: Very good deal on EVO, there. It's one of the more sought-after SNES releases, and a lot harder to locate than the R4 rarity would lead you to believe. Brandish sounds...interesting, with that whole view changing thing...

I've got a few Koei RPGs sitting around here...Aerobiz and Gemfire, I think. Both of them lame strategy games, both of them in the trade pile. ;)

Actually, my friend played Brandish for the first 30 mins and we were both kind of nauseous... I'll pick it up and try again soon...

Good to know, because I bought it in spite of the person who took the Secret of Mana mentioned in fist post from my hands.
(Actually, I initially didn't buy E.V.O., but I went back later with the 20$ mentioned later.)

What happened was my best friend told me about Secret of Mana MINT at this pawnshop, so I stayed up all night to take a 45 min trip on public transit early in the morning because she had also mentioned it to her brother. Well, when I got there, I had it in my hand and ready to pay for and the guy took it out of my hands saying the guy called 5 mins before I was ready to pay for it (I had been in there for about 10 mins) and said he was coming to get it. He brought it home later and I was pissed at him.

BUT... I thought I had found Final Fantasy III (cart only) in a bag the guy pulled form the back. That was going to make up for all the lame RPGs I bought. I took it home and tested it and it turns out that some... guy... had switched the guts for a Super Mario World cart. I took it and sold it at the flea market later for 4 times what I paid for it. *shrug* Those guys at the flea market are... bumholes... anyways.

I only ended up spending 7$ of the orignal money.

I spent 37$ originally. The person who bought Secret of Mana, friend's bro, owed me 20$. I went and spend another 15$ on games. Then I sold FFIII fake for 25$ (or 30$ trade in, but meh). Got a spindle of blank CDs I'm happy with.

All CDN $$.

EDIT: Still slightly bitter... But I took my anger out on someone else I didn't like with that FF3 cart... soo... Yes... I'm really not a bad person.

WOW, you didn't like Gemfire? I love that game! I've never played Aerobiz though. As for the prequel thing, I never knew there was any difference.

Aerobiz is my favorite 16bit strategy game
