All the Downtown Nekketsu games they didn't release here (good thing because they would have fucked something up)

This if it was released. That is my scan, low quality because I needed to get hosting fast. Good version goes to where it needs be.

That was released. But only in the US. But (almost) all the graphics were changed. But it's called Monster Party.

I knew that which is why I posted my scan of that article. The infernal part of level 1 is still there though. Hopefully the Japanese version turns up so we can play some gorey shit and a plant singing kaorake on the famicom. :rocker:

Kaettekita Mario Bros.(The original 1983 Mario but with better control and some cut scenes and product placement)
Is this like the Classic Series version of Mario Bros. that was released in Germany?

Got to mention Hammerin' Harry,w hich was also released in Japan. The game also got a sequel that was Japan-only, I want that :-P

Sort of. The German rerelease is based upon the FDS Mario Bros, but the German one added cutscenes from the arcade version. The FDS one has completely different ones. It also has a bunch of extra features, like saving high scores, and some slot machine bonus game you sometimes get after losing all your lives. (You can get second chances.)

Its worth seeking out if you like Mario Bros. Now if only Nintendo had given Donkey Kong the same treatment, and put the fourth level back in.

Gradius II
Holy Diver
Doki Doki Panic (FDS)
SMB 2(Japan) (FDS)

That's pretty much what I was going to say. Holy Diver is incredible. DAMN HARD. Probably impossible. I've only made it to level 5 w/o cheating. Even with save states, good luck.

SMB2J.....I actually made it to level 8-4 once in this baby...I was so pissed when I died.

Gradius II is so good, you could easily mistake it for a SNES game....the game really pushed the NES to its limits. Its a damn shame this game never made it here. The music is easily the best the NES has to offer.

As for DokiDoki Panic....well, back in 97 or so when I first got into emulation, this was one of the first rom (disk) images I sought out. I heard of the game years ago and knew what it was, so I couldn't wait to see how it compared to SMB2 (USA version, not the "lost levels").

Another game on not in the above list is Hebereke, a SUnsoft game that North America never got, but PAL countires got as U-Fouria. AWESOME game.

As a huge Monster Party fan, I'm hoping that it turns up too.

Here's some of my favorites (and for the record, I've owned all of these - and they were originals, not pirates or on multicarts. I only own three of them now, it's a long story as to what happened to the rest...):

Gradius II
Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti
The Goonies
Crisis Force
Parodius Da!
Akumajuo Special: Boku Dracula-kun
Getsu Fuu Ma Den
Konami Waiwai World
Waiwai World 2: S.O.S.! Paseri-jou
Moai Kun
Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa
Yume Penguin Monogatari
Holy Diver

Bloodreign

Gradius II
SMB2 J
Doki Doki Panic

And many others, but since I'm poor I emulate these classics, and damned glad I do, otherwise I'd have missed many a great game.

Woohoo Flipull! I was so happy to find it for Gameboy, so I could play it on an actual system.

I also like Binary Land, Devil World, and Hello Kitty World. There are some others, but they are in Japanese and I don't remember the names. :/

Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is one of the best 8-bit action games ever made. I'm sure it would have been a big hit over here.

Hao-kun no Fushigi na Tabi (Hao's Mystery Adventure) is a fairly interesting action-adventure game for the FDS which was dramatically scaled down for its US release (Mystery Quest).

I'm surprised no one mentioned Cocoron.

And I'll definitely second Recca, easily one of the best shooters for the system.

Awesome thread! I just back into collecting 8 bit famicom carts. Got my first system from my grandmother back in the 80s. With all the anniversary stuff I got interested again. Been hitting up Yahoo Japan, online shops and ebay for these bad boys, preferably boxed and not in bootleg/multi-cart form

My favorite JPN only games I own or on transit to me as we speak:

1. Legend of Kage 2
2. Kid Dracula
3. Splatterhouse
4. PC Genjin (Bonk)
5. Yume Penguin
6. Kunio game series
7. Gradius 2
8. Wai Wai World series
9. Namco(t) Star Wars
10. (something) aru man (raider's of the lost ark looking game by konami)
11. hokuto no ken 2
12. spartan x 2 (kung fu 2)
13. holy diver
14. super mario bros 2
15. goonies

there's a ton more just drawing a blank right now... :/
