I've always been interested in this semi-rare game for Gamecube, but don't know what kind of game it is or what it's about. IS there anyone who's played it who could give a brief synopsis of it? Ie. Gameplay, concept graphics, etc.

I picked it up recently for the Cube. It's another one of the games that seems to be common in Milwaukee, rare everywhere else. If anyone wants, I can see about picking it up around here. I've seen three used copies for $20.00 at GameStops...

I started playing it yesterday, and probably put in about two hours. The brief synopsis?

Darwin in action.

It is hilarious too. You start off as a cube creature and have to attack and eat other cube creatures to grow and mutate. The more you mututate, the better your chances of survival are and the more the female cubes dig you.

A worthy purchase, if you like quirky games.

Short version: it's quirky, Japanese and I like it. 4 out of 5

You walk around, or rather waddle and eat stuff. Enemies are different colors, each color has its own strengths and weaknesses.

You start the game off with one appendage, eat a red enemy and you 'mutate' red. As you progress you gain more appendages...now you have to eat 2 or 3 enemies in a row to mutate into that color. You also get bonus attributes like gaining a tongue or horns, which improve your stats as well.

I'm thinking this was originally a n64 game, but either way it certainly looks and feels like one. It certainly has a style all to its own.

imo, I didn't like it. It seemed slow and tedious to me and the camera is certainly no picnic. The game features the incredible lack of a soundtrack. I didn't get very far into the game, so maybe it gets better...what I played was very repetitive and didn't hold my attention. That said, you can find this game for $20 and I recommend trying it out, as I've never played anything like it before. You can always turn around and sell it right back for what you paid for it.

It's worth having just as an oddity. Graphics are horrid from a technical standpoint, being about a step down from Animal Crossing. However, the visuals do have a style that makes up for their primitive presentation. It's a novelty buy, not a must-buy, so you may want to avoid it if whimsicality is not a major trait in your estimation of a title's quality.

I forget what I paid like $15-20 for a used copy at Gamestop a few months back.

When I saw it on the shelf of the store my eyes popped out that I snatched it up super quick.
I've never seen this game on a store shelf, until that day...I've always wanted to buy this game.

I've yet to play it..I've actually started the game and watched the beginning/intro but something came up preventing me from playing it.

It looks very intriguing..

I loved the game to death, extremely underrated. I wrote a little feature on it over at N-Philes, check it out if you want.

I just found a used copy the other day for $39.99. I'd really like to try this game out, but there's no way I'm paying that much for it.

I'm too cheap for my own good sometimes. LOL

And you shouldn't. Plenty of places have it for $29.99 new now.

Really? Like where? I don't know if I'd get another copy, but that's a deal!

I read somewhere, yesterday I think that Cubivore and Animal Crossing were developed in conjunction for the N64 and were at one point supposed to link together, but that never happened. That explains the rather odd graphics.

Also, in the back of the manual they have Cubivore toys that are "soon to be released." Anyone have any of these? They look kinda cool!

That would also explain why Cubivore characters appear as trophies in Smash Bros Melee.

Cubivore is still one of my favorite Gamecube games. There's nothing quite like it. The closest comparison is EVO for SNES. I really love evolution games for some reason.

No, the reason for that is because Cubivore was actually published by Nintendo in Japan. Atlus picked it up for the states.

I was really never into these evolution type games, but I have to say I do make an exception for Cubivore. It really is a great game.
