This is not the Mario Baseball previously announced.

The question is, how good will the seattle mariners be on the game? :hmm:

Well, they still have Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiichiro LOL
http://cube.ign.com/articles/583/583066p1.html is the IGN report on this game which may tell a bit more...at least you can see the cover art there. Surprisingly, Ichiro isn't the cover boy...the cover model isn't even a Mariner.

Remind me again why publishers will stop making sports games because they can't use player names/likenesses because of licensing agreements?

Because people want to use real players and not Joe Schmo. It should be pointed out that Take2's deal is only partially exclusive...companies that produce consoles can still use the MLB licenses. This means that Nintendo (as well as Microsoft & Sony) can still publish baseball games using the MLB & MLBPA licenses...

As a baseball fan I am keeping my eye on this one and I hope it turns out to be a good game. Otherwise my choices are the new MVP or yet another year of HH2004 (which is not a bad thing :) ).

I wonder if they will have his pre-batting stance "ritual" (you know.. circular sweep, the pose with the bat head pointing straight up, then the tug on the right shoulder.

But since he does that with each pitch it's pretty ridiculous having a baseball game showing Ichiro and it's just some rendered generic dude walking up to the plate and waggling a bat LOL
I have yet to see one baseball game have it.. (if there is one, let me know) :hmm:

For those who don't know already, this is being developed by Exile Interactive, developers of Sega's 2K2, 2K3 and 2K4 baseball games.

Well have fun playing MVP 2005 when it's not being made. In case you missed on the news, the 2K series is now the only 3rd party developer that is allowed to create baseball games with licensed players for the next 7 years or so. Like I said it's the only 3rd party that is allowed, the deal doesn't exclude Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo from making their own, thus this game comes into play.

The new MVP WILL come out. But it will be the last.

What are you talking about? MVP is still on for a 3/01/05 release, is it not?

Yes, that agreement doesn't go into effect until next year. EA and others' agreements were obviously made previously and still are valid for this year's games. Those games are essentially finished (perhaps a bit of tweaking of the current rosters may still be done) and I'm sure there would be lawsuits flying if someone told them they couldn't bring them out now after all the work and money that went into the 2005 editions...
