I will be picking up an Xbox and the live package soon to get online. What are some of the best online games?

Halo 2
Crimson Skies (which should come w/ the live kit)
Burnout 3
Dead or Alive: Ultimate
And if you're into sports games, you have plenty of options as well.

Heres what I own:
Halo2-
while its obvious that its a good game, and it is probably one of the best xbox live games i will always feel that this series is waaay overrated.
Star wars battlefront-
This could have been an awsome game but lack of any stats, ranking, horrible hit detection, and vechiles being far too powerful made it highly aggrivating.
Mech assault-
i have yet to play the second one but this is one of the best xbox live experiences. its a pick up and play for anyone, alot of fun.
midnight club 2-
i played it once, became bored fast. everyone uses codes and only uses one vehicle.
phantasy star online-
fun if u dont mind the monthly fee
unreal championship-
this is a fun experience, the levels and weapons are varried and its possible to kill people without playing the game 24/7
ghost recon + island thunder-
i wasnt a huge fan but these games are definitly for the more stealth oriented players. people camp ALOT

Project Gotham Racing 2 should be fun, but everybody just picks the fastest cars and then slams into all the corners. You can host your own game and set your own rules, but still, I'd like for the gameplay experience to be a little bit better.

thanks everyone!
I picked up Rallisport Challenge 2 because it was cheap and I figure my buddy and I can play online together. I just hope it doesn't suck.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a favorite of mine.
The other ones I've played are:
Midnight Club 2 - As was said before, there's too many cheaters. It's pretty dead on there anyways as far as public games go.
Battlefront - Can be fun on games with a good number of decent players, but this game is also pretty much dead in the water as far it goes online right now (I played it the other night and there were only 4 people on).
Crimson Skies - I got this with Xbox Live but I haven't played it too much. Seems pretty fun though, and it's still popular online.
ESPN NHL 2K5 - Haven't played online for a while -- it tended to be laggy and the stats reset a couple of times.
Halo 2 - Good stuff if you can get some friends to play with you. The smacktard level on some games (espcially Rumble Pit stuff) can be high.

Six posts and no-one has mentioned Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow?!?!? One of the most popular and most polished Live games. Still being supported as there were 4 new maps released not too long ago. And despite Battlefront's flaws, you simply MUST get it if you're a Star Wars fan. Still alot of fun to be had with that one.

RalliSport 2 most certainly does not suck. It's an excellent game, online or offline, it's my favorite racing game next to F-Zero X. It's a great choice, especially at its current price.
Other great online games to consider:
Tetris Worlds: Tons of fun, lots of different modes to choose from, classic puzzle fun, can play your custom soundtracks while online.
Unreal Championship: Good, brainless fun. You don't have to be a FPS junkie to enjoy it.
Mechassault: One of the definitive Live experiences, it's very easy to pick up and play, but there's also plenty of depth to it. Mechassault 2 is also good, but I'm not sure I like it as much as the first.
Halo 2: I do have some gripes with it, but the party & matchmaking systems are brilliant, and you never waste tons of time trying to get a game going.
Star Wars Battlefront: A very immersive experience, really gives you the sense of being in an actual battle.

Steel Battalion: Line of Contact is probably the deepest and most engaging online game you'll find for the Xbox.
