So I turned on Cinematech, the show that just shows parts of video games (usually the cinemas...hence it's name)...only this time I saw examples of 2600 games. Not only that, but they even showed the original commercials for some of these games. I haven't seen the whole show but ones I have seen include Pitfall, Megamania, Atlantis and Vanguard...and E.T. is next (last)! Too bad the quality of these original commercials is really bad...

The best was their episode of CHEAT where they gave walkthroughs and strategy for both 2600 Adventure and Haunted House. Their commercials also used to have a couple of classic game references such as Tempest. Unfortunately a lot has changed since the merger with TechTV so it's kind of rare to catch these.

Luckily I catch this channel since I have satellite, but the last time I watched Cinematech, I was games like Super Mario World, and Super Metroid. It was cool to see those games, and a lot better to watch clips from those games then many newer games.

I was surprised to see Tobal 2 today on there while channel surfing around 1:50pm

I just wish they would bring back Starcade... :(

I also wish we could get some girl on girl action on G4TV.com. They always talk about it but never do it.

You're actually supposed to be able to buy episodes of Starcade on DVD but when I go to their website at http://www.jmpc.com/Starcade/starframe.htm it seems the link to their store section isn't working. I don't know of it's just today or if it's gone down permanently...

You can get the Starcade DVD for only $17.99 at www.GoodDealGames.com, which is 2 bucks cheaper than on the Starcade website when it is working.

Thanks,
Michael

G4tv.com has various old games in the background of their new set. I saw a boxed Space War for 2600, for one.

One of the Cinematech episodes was showing classic games, and then showing the new version that had just been released of the same franchise. They did Contra, Final Fantasy, and a few others that I can't remember. It was pretty cool to see the original Contra on the T.V.

I still think it's funny when I occasionally hear someone on G4 talking about classic games and they bring up the N64 or even (and yes, this is true) an early generation of Gamecube or PS2 title. I actually laugh out loud when "the classic game that is the first Sly Cooper game" is brought up at some point.

And isn't it on X-Play that they have a few picks of the boxes from VCS titles? I thought I saw a Space Invaders box once, but maybe it was just my eyes.
