First of alll, what are you trying to accomplish with the mod? Different graphics mode/output type? Geting around region protection? Can't those be handled with simple switches? (I'm not sure about UK models though)
Is it safe to assume it's not for the other common (not above) reason people do mods?

The Saturn is UK correct?

I've never really looked at the innards of anything other than my own V-Saturn JX-2 myself.

one word.
play CD-R rips... (backups if you have legit originals)
that is sole purpose of the mod chip.
it has nothing to do with region and others unlike other consoles.

The model two chip doesn't need to connect to the board, run the blue a wire to the b on the mod itself, and the red to power...but since your chip is different, i have no clue whatsoever if it would work or not.

Funny that I never thought about that, because considering some of the Saturn games I have I might do well to be extra careful with them.....

I never really thought about games in terms of collections until a couple of years ago to be honest. Fortunately anything I have done to the discs up to this time is largely minimal (at least not changing the grade they were at when I got them, at least in most cases, as I was always careful to the extent of an sane player if not as a collector).

okay! the 32pin chip satrun which was supposedly bust isnt! i managed to fix it!
Now after all the modifying and soldering, im nearly there, just one small problem

Once the the saturn boots up, it checks the disc in the audio cd player screen thing, but it reads normal games as audio cds saying there are 2 tracks (on Resident Evil)
One of the squares at the side has also turned red for some reason...

Any idea what is going wrong dj898? (Mal Sent me these chips btw!)

in honest the best bet would after checking all the joint and all in sound condition, get another Saturn to try again... when yo uhave that kind of problem you either have wanky mod chip or you need to solder the wire to the IC leg, not the bridge job I'm afraid...

I was contemplating the mod chip myself and even got a junk Saturn to practice but then I went and modified one of my PAL Saturn with country as well as 50/60Hz switch mods...

Green/Red cubes means you are getting there, but still off. I remember it took me buying another used saturn and opening it up to get the right kind, and many attempts. I actually consider my modded Saturn the prize of my collection. You might want to try once or twice to flip the ribbon connection. Also, you should try to search for "bridging" the A and B connections on the modchip, as I was able to do that and skip soldering the chip to the board altogether. (No idea why it works, but it did.)

Also, the saturn Dev forums here might help: http://forums.segaxtreme.net/index.php?act=idx

Good luck and post back. I'm rooting for you.

Okay, a little update, hopefully this will contribute to a working solution from someone:

Okay, with the mod chip in the cd reads all the data on the disc but it shows up as an Audio cd. i know im close to getting this working as it can read the data for sure!
Another noticeable thing is the 2 floating Green cubes on the audio playing part of the saturn have turned into a red circle and a yellow circle...

when the mod chip is unplugged and the ribbon cable is put back in place, the cds work fine.

therefore im guessin somethin with the mod chip is up! If it can read the data, how coem it cant boot the cd?

im gonna try copying one of my games and boot a CDR, see if that works!

ill keep you updated, hopefulyl its possible to get working

I remember when I was about to give up I had checked into some shops who might do the mod for me. Unfortunately, the only place I was able to find was in the UK. Like you. Maybe you can find it, I don't remember it anymore.

Not sure what u ment with the last sentence, but modchip have something to do with region. If i havnt had a modchip in my ps2 i couldnt play import games from USA and Japan. So it does make it region free with a modchip :)

Not true. It only removes the copy protection. You still need a 4in1 cart to play imports.
