I saw a N64 at a thrift store for .99, but it was missing the memory expansion thingie.
It didn't have the cap to the memory expansion slot, and the thing that is normally in there, is missing. It's complete empty.
Will the thing work?

No, it really needs the RAM

What about if you got the expansion Ram and plugged that into it. Would it work then?

Nope. It's called a jumper pack, and your N64 is dead without it. Good price though. :)
Shouldn't be too expensive in the US. Just pick up a memory expansion thing instead. Used, of course.

It'll work fine as long as there's either a jumper pack or expansion pack in there. I have a spare jumper pack kicking around here, actually...don't need it for anything, myself. Though I'd understand if you'd want to just get an expansion pack instead. ;)
