View Full Version : I Finally Ordered My First Game of 2005...

I actually got 3 games early this month but those were all games I actually ordered last month so I don't count them. My goal this year was to buy no more than 20 games so I'm obviously trying to be picky and only get the best. Via Ebay, I just won a copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the auction also includes the strategy guide. Besides my limit of 20 games, I also was thinking of limiting my purchases to games that cost no more than $30 but I don't think I'm going to stick to that so much. I'll still look for bargains when possible but I don't need to have two such limits and I do want to get a baseball game when they first come out and I don't want to wait until the season's over before I can get one for $20...

If you're only going to get 20 games a year, GTA:SA is a good choice. Depending on how many hours a day you play, you can literally spend weeks playing that game, exploring all its nooks and crannies.

Yes, I've heard it's a very deep game. It's also gotten rave reviews so it's kind of a no-brainer. Once it arrives, I'll probably play it exclusively for awhile. I have lots of time for gaming though I don't play all the time...my gaming comes and goes sometimes but I do feel like it's time for me to get back into some real gaming time. That'll likely be my main game for a few weeks...

Just wondering, do you know which baseball game you are planning on getting this year? Will Sega be putting one out this year or not?

Great choice man, GTA:SA will keep you busy for a very long time. :)

I got the game like just a little while after Christmas, and that was the only game I played(a couple hours a day) for about a month. And even now after beating the story missions and doin alot of stuff, I still play atleast an hour or two every day(or atleast every other day).

And I still haven't even came close to getting bored!

Yes, Sega will still have their baseball game this year as will EA. I will doubtless buy EA's MVP Baseball 2005 since I enjoyed the 2004 edition so much. For a lighter game, I may also buy Mario Baseball but I'm less certain of that. I'll need to read a bit more about it before I make that decision. Another game I'll likely buy eventually will be Resident Evil 4.

No, there wil be no MVP Baseball this year because Take Two bought the MLB license.

Oh and good choice on GTA, you should get Resident Evil 4 after that. A freakin' must own.

Yes, there will be an MVP Baseball this year. That exclusive license won't kick in until next season. To quote diginews.com...

Beginning in 2006, Take2 will have exclusive rights among third-party publishers to develop and market simulation, arcade and manager-style baseball video games on the current and next-generation PlayStation, X-BOX, Nintendo, personal computer and hand-held video game systems. At the same time, manufacturers of video game systems will have the opportunity to develop and publish baseball simulation games for their own platforms.

Note they say "Beginning in 2006", not in 2005. Obviously Sega, EA and others already had the rights for this year, else they wouldn't have games in production which they do...

Haha, I read about your "no more than 20" goal or something back in that thread I believe you started. Good luck!

Me, I know I will buy more than 20 games this year. Hell, I'm past halfway already. :P

Well, I actually received 3 games this month...but I don't know if I'm going to count those since I actually ordered those last month which was before I even decided to try to limit myself to no more than 20. I don't think I will count them...after all, I did pay for them last year...

San Andreas is a good game to start with. After 46 hours of playtime I've just barely scratched the surface of all that there is to do.

I agree, good choice.

I haven't played it in a week or so myself, I've found myself playing it much like I end up playing through Resident Evil games, which is: Play a few missions, get stuck, quit for a week or so, come back, complete mission with startling ease, repeat. Replace "missions" with "arbitrary puzzles" for Resident Evil.

Right now I'm stuck on "farewell my love". Ugh. I hate all the mandatory racing missions you have to do in this game. It seems all the worse this time around, since the car you're forced to use can't handle for shit on the country terrain. oh well.

Sweet! I'm always interested in the progress on this.

Myself, I've already went insane this year - I think I'm still averaging a purchase of at least one game a day thus far.

Enjoy the GTA: San Andreas - I've still yet to finish GTA: 3 myself.

Hey, 20 games a year is still quite a bit less than I usually get. This means no splurging on cheapo games as well as the new more expensive games I get.

What about old games from thrift stores? Does 20 games mean 20 NEW games or 20 games total?

For me, 20 games means 20 games...any game from $50 new ones to $1 cheapos I may come across...

What if you hit a thrift and find 50 NES games for $20? What will you do then? If and when you find great deals this year it may be hard to stick to that 20 game rule....or either that loose out on some great deal...

Well, 50 NES games wouldn't tempt me since I gave my NES to a friend last year...but it's actuallyl unlikely I'd find any kind of deal like that for games I would actually want. If it happens, que sera sera as Doris used to sing. Buying 20 or fewer games is my goal but it's not like it'd kill me if such an event arose...though I'm not going out actively looking for such things.

Ahh, I thought your "20 game rule" was etched in stone! :) I was thinking I would screw you all up and offer you 21 games for some rediculiously low price! LOL
