I "found" the PC port of Baku Baku Animal not too long ago. It's not such a bad puzzle game as these things go. However, it is severely lacking in frills. Not only does the fullscreen mode not work (it tries to change to an incompatible refresh rate), but the characters in the 1-player mode are barely animated at all, to say nothing of voice or sound effects.

I think this might have been originally ported in the early days of Windows 95, so perhaps it is excusable. But is the Saturn version that much better?

Hmm

One of my 5 favorite saturn games to play :)

I have had a few of the sega PC games and they are nothing like the original console versions.

I've got the (Brazilian) Master System version, and despite lacking a 2-player mode, it's pretty damn good.

I played the demo of it on the Saturn, and it's pretty good. There's more animations and music like that, so it was probably just a problem in the porting.

I have (and love) the GameGear Baku Baku, and should have the SMS one soon too.

I think the best thing about the game is that it feels like a head-to-head game-link kinda game, but with alot of different challengers ready to take you on.

I can't really help on whether the PC version is working properly or not as I haven't played that version but I will say that even on Saturn the game is pretty ugly now with its rendered graphics so I wouldn't expect much. The game itself is still quite enjoyable though.

Got the Saturn version and if you like these puzzle games it is a good game (imho), sure graphics are simple but Bust-A-Move doesn't look better i think.

So did the Saturn version have speech, or was that not quite trendy yet at the time?

I think there were little clips of speech (i.e. animal noises, "Yeah!", etc.), but no full-fledged acting.

Good solid game but the graphics and graphics style do not appeal to me. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the Panda from the Dog.
