I know a lot of people go crazy over label variations for Atari 2600 carts. Many of you may have seen the "Giant List of Atari 2600 Label Variations" that has been circulating around the net for years. I have to say that it doesn't interest me that much.

Not surprisingly, no one has compiled a "Giant List of VIC-20 Label Variations" and perhaps for that reason I am intrigued by some of the different labels I see in my VIC-20 collecting.

Most people who know anything about the VIC-20 know about Commodore's 2 biggest label styles: the metal label and the beige/brown label. Many of them were also released with a plain metal label and a sticker denoting the name of the game. Sometimes it just says the name but other times it is a bit more elaborate, such as this Gorf cart:

I also recently discovered that I have 2 variations of Spider City:

Were other Sirius carts released in the black Commodore case with the full label? All 5 of mine have the white case (except for my extra Spider City obviously).

i love spider city!!

there's also the atari variations, wich are black with metal stickers. I have somewhere donkey kong, centipide robotron.

Also remember the emi ones, wich came in a black cartridge with the grid on it (forth encounter)and the carts are a bit different too.

All my Sirius Vic20 carts are in the white casing type.

there's actually about 4 different variants of gorf that i've found.

-regular gorf
-silver gorf
-"small label" gorf (smaller than the one in that pic)
-"medium label" gorf (the one in that pic)

i might have seen other ones but i'll have to check.

most or all of umi's games have two different cart variants: gold and black. gold ones are speckled and smooth; black ones have a rougher surface.

scott adam's adventure games had a small variant as well. the "type sys # to start game" in the top right corner.

Ah yes. I've got that on Mission Impossible and The Count. And if you want to get really picky, some of the regular beige labels have "Made in Hong Kong" on them and some don't. I believe all the standard metal labels say "Made in Hong Kong".

One game I've never seen with a metal label is Star Battle.

I noticed that the label only covers about half the cart on all of the Atarisoft cartridges except Defender which has a full label. I wonder if there is a half-label Defender or maybe full-label versions of the other releases?
