I was talking to the owner of a couple of used game stores in my area today. To help free up space they will be removing all their empty game boxes from the shelves and just putting the loose carts up.

I've got the chance to purchase a lot (maybe around 1000) empty SNES, Genesis and N64 boxes. These are all original boxes in various condition. I know from my previous trips in the stores that they would probably rate between 5/10 to 9/10. The stores have been around about 4 years so the selection is wide. On Saturday I'm going to go look at the lot and will try to get some pics to post here.

Now if I get this lot I will sort it and pick out what I want and then offer the rest here.

My question to the forum is this:

1. What would you consider a fair price for this large lot of game boxes?

$9 shipped.

do you accept paypal? :)

Figure out how many there actually are and the condition their in.Then maybe piece it out from 10 cents to a 50 cents a box.

@_@

Good god! DON'T do that!

They are "trash" to most rental places, so offer a nickel to a dime per box. If you were buying individual boxes, a couple or so, I can see maybe giving a buck. But you are buying in bulk, and price it accordingly.

$50-$100 will be more than enough.

Absolutely. if you don't buy the lot of them no one else will and they'll end up in the trash.

And anyways, if you've got a couple of Chrono Trigger boxes in there you've already made your investment back ;) And I could use a far better condition Shadowrun box if you happen upon a spare *nudge nudge*

I'd be intrested in some of the boxes also if and when you get them. I do have a list of ones I'm looking for if that'd help.

5 - 10 Cents per box works out good on a large lot like that.

.75 Per Atari cart ?!? Not bad , but I got 90 cents per NES cart for the last 120 games I bought at Games Plus. And he even let me pick the ones I wanted so no doubles (thankfully no SMB/Duckhunts)

But going through all of those NES Boxes and manuals then all of the SNES boxes and manuals and alphabetizing was a pain in my ass. The stuff is still kicking my ass :embarrassed:

Glad to see there is some interest. :)

I'm hoping to have this deal completed and boxes in hand by the end of March at the very latest. With any luck it will be end of this month.

Boxes will slowly eat away at your soul. You'll see them in morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. Just hope you have a large place set aside to store them where you can't see em. I've had so many empty game gear, snes and genesis boxes for a long time. In the long run it's served me very well (except for the few crappy rental boxes I got) but I find them very hard to resell. If you ever do go for reselling your left-overs, don't do it individually, it's not worth the time. Just make a big lot. I've been meaning to sell off most of my snes as I have little interest in the system but I just never get around to it.

Don't offer a "per box" price, 5 cents a box sound a lot worse than saying "how about 50 bucks for the entire lot".

offer 50 bucks, if he doesn't like it, offer him 100

izret101
02-04-2005, 05:19 PM
Try this.
Leave about 50 bucks in your wallet assorted money say "I only have 50 bucks is that enough?"

I did that to a guuy i was buying NES stuff from. He thought it was worth a fortune. When i asked him a few years back he said he had to check the prices on it.
Loose carts busted system etc.
Lucky me stores around here stopped taking anything pre-DC into their stores.

So when he called me up i left about 100 bucks in my wallet he said he couldn't go under 125 as he had something that was rare. (Nothing spectacular just a decent sized lot of stuff) I told him hold on went home pulled 25 out of my wallet went back said i borrowed the money.

The NES was dead and the controller was busted so i ended up getting my 25 back in the long run anyways.

Guess the purpose of that seemingly offtopic reply was make it look like your offering all you can if you know it will be a fair (or lowball) trade and you know the person is going to ask way to much for it if they know you might be willing to pay for it.

Got pics of the lot. Now about 2 or 3 bags are NES boxes and I'm not getting those but everything else I'm getting.

Then I also saw this poking out from under one of the bags. It has all the games in it that are labeled on the fron. The owner wasn't there so I couldn't make an offer so I sent them an email:

They're mine!!!!

THEY'RE ALL MINE!!!!!!!

LOL

Just kidding. I'm keeping one of each from this whole lot and the rest will be offered up here on DP. I'm still working up a plan on how to keep order of the requests that I'm sure will be coming in. ;)

I do know this: There are NO Final Fantasy 2 or 3 boxes and possibly only 1 Chrono Trigger box. Part of the reason they took the boxes off the shelf was that people were stealing the empty boxes. :( (bunch of savages in this town)

As far as when they are in my hands I'm still shooting for the end of Febuary or early March.

Do they have the white inner boxes in the SNES and N64 boxes or any manuals, or are they just empty boxes? It's a real pain trying to find more of the inner boxes especially in large quantities.

Inner Boxes:
Not sure. All of them were shrink wrapped and I didn't bother opening any while I was there. My guess is that if the boxes had them when they were traded in then yes.

Manuals:
They generally will take all the paperwork out and keep the manual. There maybe a few that got overlooked though.

just to help raise yoru hopes, though maybe falsely...

Worked out a deal on the SMS Demo unit. I'm going to test it on Thursday and as long as everything works....

I'm picking up the first batch tonight, then some Friday, and the rest Saturday.

I want to sort this lot and get it organized before I start putting up a for sale list. So please do not pm me directly at this time with your requests. :)

Well between my truck and my wife's car I managed to get 60% of the haul in one trip. I sorted out one bag of Genesis tonight so here's a pic:

http://img212.exs.cx/img212/9483/boxes1uw.th.jpg (http://img212.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img212&image=boxes1uw.jpg)

There's 140 boxes there alone. The total comes out to 7 bags of Genesis, and 5 bags each of SNES and N64.

Also out of this one bag of Genny boxes I managed to snag 18 manuals....BONUS!!! :)

I guessing 700-800 Genesis boxes alone. Maybe 400 or so each of SNES and N64.

So he charged you over 500.00+ for something he was gonna throw in the trash?

Not really. They were planning on taking them all to Ebay. In fact I missed out on NES manuals because of this. It is blind luck I asked about boxes the day I did. Plus on top of the Nintendo pile was a minty fresh Flintstones 2 box for NES. I asked them if they would throw that one Nintendo box into my lot. But they knew what they had.

This particular store chain has been around since the late 80's in my area and the owner of the store I was at is the grandchild of the founders. So she has been working in games since the early 90's. She's not a gamer but she knows what is collectible and what is not.

Except when it comes to store demo units. ;)

Just thought I post some of the unique things I'm finding inside the boxes:

Street Fighter II manual for SNES inside a Mario Kart 64 box.

Someone's rental membership card to Hasting's.

A computer printout detailing everything about some 16 year-old girl in Arizona (I'm in Arkansas). :hmm:

Numerous reciepts from when the game was purchased new. Abrams Battle Tank for Genesis purchased for $64.95.

Pokemon Stadium for $9.97 at Sears on 12-16-00.

Also most of the N64 games that had that little quick reference card still have the card inside the box.

N64 is now done!!!

787 total boxes

197 different titles

7 manuals

0 games

I hope there are people here that need boxes for Goldeneye. Because between the original style box and the million seller version I've got A LOT. LOL

So far 1398 total boxes with SNES still to go. Looks like my 1500 total estimate was a little off. ;)

Sweet, nice score. I have to agree that sorting boxes is a pain in the ass. I'm eagerly awaiting a list of what ya got for genesis, I've got so many lonely manuals ;D! With the insane amount of N64 you seem to have I may be interested in those too....I threw away my boxes stupidly but kept all the manuals so that would instantly complete my n64! Looking foward to when you get everything listed.

Now keep in mind that some of these titles I only got one box for so it's going into my collection. However the majority will be for sale soon. ;)

After I finish SNES I will post that list as well. Then a couple of days later I will start selling my extras.

I'm guessing since you got over 700 Nintendo 64 and about 200 are unique your going to sell quite a few off. Maybe when you put them up for sale I'll be able to box some of these loose carts laying around. Anyway I think you got a great deal. At least you don't have to worry about what to do with 50 Madden '96 boxes.

heh, your genesis box list is nearly identical to the one I got a while back. Some nice titles in there. I'll be looking foward to the n64 sale...maybe genesis too, but I'll probably have most of em anyhow.

You're probably going to be inundated with specific requests, but if it's at all possible, I'd be extremely grateful for the chance to get these 3 SNES boxes:

Contra III
Sunset Riders
Super Street Fighter II

Thanks!

For everyone that has been following this post I hit a snag in my rush to get these sorted and start selling the extras.

I was testing a way to easily sort these so that orders will go smooth when I realized my current system would not be very efficient.

In a sense I've had to start over on my sorting which will delay me in selling the extras. With any luck a thread will be ready in B&S next weekend.

Sorry. :embarrassed:
