Come on what game/s are your favorite ones, Pick one.

Heres to jog your memory.

Battletoads
Battletoads Double Dragon
Snake Rattle n' Roll
Cobra Triangle
Captain Skyhawk
High Speed

among others.

My all time favorite is Snake Rattle n' Roll. I absolutely love the isometric 3D level design and just the whole concept and music are all great.

R.C. Pro-Am and Cobra Triangle. Cobra Triangle is a very cool racing/shooting hybrid and hideously underrated.

What was the name of that rare game that was basically a horoscope? That would be my answer!

Are you sure RC Pro Am was developed by Rare? If it was that is my fav. Otherwise it's Cobra Triangle!

I'd go with the sheer genius of Battletoads, but other choices are similarly attractive...

Slalom.

..................................

Seriously, Rare still hasn't topped NES Battletoads.

R.C. Pro-Am . Rad Racer runs a close second though.

Rare did Wizards and Warriors? That gets my vote. Two, actually. :-P

DA-dum. Da-dum. Dum-dum da-dum!

:rocker:
(I use Opera mainly, but sometimes I use IE. This little dude up here rocks HARD on IE for some reason, like he's trying to shake it off or he's having a seizure. It's pretty funny.)

Definitely Wizards & Warriors. The first only, Ironsword and Kuros: Visions Of Power were decent, but they failed to top the first one.

RC Pro Am
RC Pro Am 2
Snake Rattle n Roll
Solar Jetman
Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat (Very similar to Off Road.)
Slalom (Yes I'm being serious.)

I'm going to fall in with the R.C Pro Am/Cobra Triangle camp here (as that was a *damn* good engine they created there). However, the home version of Marble Madness was ported quite excellently by Rare.

Cobra Commander

Yeah Wizards was developed by Rare, and published by Acclaim.

Battle toads/double dragon. I loved this game to death. I own it for the NES, SNES and Genesis.

Nightmare on Elm Street was pretty good. RC Pro-AM and Cobra Triangle are some great games as well.

I think Battletoads was their best NES game followed by Cobra Triangle.

I really liked Slalom too but more the arcade version because of the ski controller. It wasn't quite the same with a control pad.

I'll have to say Battletoads, as this game really grew on me, and unlike Snake Rattle & Roll or Cobra Triangle, I actually managed to friggin' beat it. It's a damn good game despite its insanity.

Wow, I had totally forgotten Rare did Pirates! Excellent conversion.

Wizards and Warriors and Battletoads are tops on my list.

Rad Racer runs a close second though.

Rad Racer? That game was developed by Square.

My vote probably goes to Wizards & Warriors.

Damn straight, that's the best pinball sim ever. Ever.
People will talk about Goldeneye this and Perfect Dark that, but IMO Rare's best work is in the NES titles mentioned here.

I agree. You know, Rare had an edge over every other NES game designer. When the NES was first being brought over to Europe and the US, the president of Nintendo (Minoru Arikawa? spelling?) was looking for Western game developers, and he somehow found out about the Rare brothers, who were interested in working with the system. To test them, Arikawa gave them a NES, no instructions on how to develop for it or what it did, and told them to make a game. They had to experiment with thet thing for a long time to figure out how it worked, and in doing so, they discovered things that the NES could do that Nintendo themselves didn't even know about. No other developer ever really caught on to all the tricks. That's why Rare's games look so amazing compared to everybody else's--they knew things about the NES and could get it to do things that nobody else could.

Wow! That's really interesting. Any idea what the game was that they initially submitted to prove themselves? I think Slalom was their first released game, but I'm sure they made some smaller test game(s) before that.

I don't remember what the game was; it might not have even been a game. Rare did develop a few PC or Commodore titles before getting involved with Nintendo, one of which I think was called "Jetpack", so it could have been that. Check out Stephen L. Kent's book "the Ultimate History of Video Games" for the full story.

Slalom was definitely their first game they did for Nintendo, and I think it was for the Vs system first.
