I already have a PAL copy. I won't give up I will get one someday. I am starting to wonder if this game was ever released in the states.

And as you say

Considering I've never seen a guarunteed US copy on ebay, I think you'll have a hard time accomplishing this ;D. It's a good game, I loved it on game gear but for me personally I don't think it's worth the trouble. If I come across one in the wild some day, then I'll buy it. I'll probably pick up a PAL copy someday just to have one.

Yeah no offense (because I think the Master System section is one of the best in Digital Press Guide) but WAS it confirmed? By who? I just saying that I've been doing the Master System thing since the 80's and have NEVER seen one.

I'm not trying to say anyone is lying. I just am not real sure of it's release in the U.S. and would love to see one.

I Think the only change is in the barcode.
Maybe loads of it are actually sold on ebay, maybe not but how can you find one if the seller doesn't know the game he sells is an us copy? I guess that's what makes it so rare.

"Aside from a UPC sticker on the box, this game is 100% identical to the European release."

I'm pretty sure Raccoon Lad has a genuine US copy.
Do any of you guys have the "US" versions of Spiderman & Strider? I believe they are in the same boat with a US barcode on an otherwise-Euro game.

I have those 2 games. The only difference that I know of is the UPC sticker on the back.

Like I said I will get one some day.

There is but it is part of the back cover. The US UPC is a sticker over that one.

This might help clear things up a bit (thank to vgrebirth.com):

Euro version UPC code (printed on inlay): 4974365634766

"US version" UPC code (stickered over Euro UPC code): 010086070767

I bought spiderman from a US seller on ebay but when I received it, it had a PAL barcode, and no sticker. As for Strider, I actually bought that at my local gamezone and it did for sure have the barcode. Stupidly enough, I forgot about it and replaced the box because the plastic was all screwed up and now it doesn't. Oh well, same damn thing as a PAL game so I don't really care.

Did Sonic 2 come out in the USA for sms? On sega.com, they say it did. Are the instructions on a pal sonic the same as the USA version?

Sonic 2 was not released in the US. The PAL and US version of Sonic instrutions are the same.

Who else thinks the US SMS Sonic should be bumped to R8 status? Seems to be rarer than OMG... Stadium Events.

i don't think it's rare enough to be r8 but it definately doesn't come up for sale as much as some other r7's.

You know, if the game truely is identical to the european game except for a bar code sticker on the outside of the plastic sleeve of the case, then does it really matter? Since there's no difference wahtsoever I don't think it does.

It's not like the whole 'all english case insert' vs the 'bilingual case insert' vs the '5 language case insert' argument. It's just a sticker. The game is identical. They were probably even manufactured at the same time.

Anyhow, best of luck picking one up. Never seen one myself either. Cheers

Personally I don't even think it should be a US release. I've never seen anyone confirm having a us barcoded copy. In Sega Visions there's also so many games they reviewed for us release that never came here. Sonic 2, Lucky Dime Caper, Pat Riley Basketball....seems they just canned tons of stuff at the end.

Sonic was definitely a US release. I've had a few over the years but never held onto one for myself. Kinda sucks since that and Spider-Man are the only two US SMS games I need.
