I was browsing the history section of the UK Sony PlayStation site when I came accross the following factual information - So here, I will set the record straight about the PlayStation in my sig...
"In October, a special PlayStation 2 'European Automobile Collection' was launched to celebrate the shipment of 20 million units worldwide. 5 different colours – white, red, yellow, blue, and silver, all with a metallic finish – were produced in quantities of 2,000 each.
Europe, Japan and the US received 666 each; where the two spare consoles from each batch went is a mystery...."
So there you have it folks - The facts as they stand.
A friend I know has had both a white AND blue NTSC U/C model, and has said that Japan got their consignment first (1-666), followed by America (667 - 1332), and then finally the UK and Europe (1333 - 1998)
I beg to differ though, as I recently bought an NTSC U/C one whose serial number is one of the first twenty five produced...
It would be interesting to know what happened to the missing two of each though (Presumably number's 001 and 002 of the batch...)
