View Full Version : What games have mine carts?

A lot of games seem to have levels that have mine carts. These carts are usually either just modes of transportation, background decorations, or a method in which to destroy/kill stuff. Off the top of my head I came up with:

Donkey Kong Country
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom/Infernal Machine
Zelda: Minish Cap
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Resident Evil 4

I know there's a LOT more, so what else is there?

Duck Tales!

Maybe Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Pacman 2. Memory's foggy on those two.

Guerilla War, with its psuedo-Mode 7 scrolling.

I think one of the Super Mario games on the SNES has them. I also think they are in Yoshi's Island and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon.

All 3 of the Donkey Kong Countries.

Super Mario RPG had the mine car racing in it for god sakes how did that get forgotten.

Chrono Trigger i think does somewhere in its infinate backgrounds.

Why mine carts???

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3's Canada level has a mine cart track. If you grind it all the way to the end, you get a gap bonus. Name of the gap bonus? "Mandatory Videogame Mine Cart Ride"

Isn't there an arcade game where you sit in a mine car and shoot at bad guys?

A slight bit off topic, but, what was the Sega arcade coin-op that actually had the player sit in a mine cart? I believe this game had a sequel in the arcade also.

Spiderman/X-Men Arcade's revenge had mine carts.

Rail Chase. Great game. Not playable in Mame (yet), but has been playable in Final Burn for quite awhile.

I suppose we could add whatever game is in Iron Draggon's avatar.

Why mine carts? Because just about every game has a freakin' mine cart level. What is the appeal with these things? I mean, if you want an "oh no, we're stuck on something that's out of control" level, use a train or a car or even a cardboard box sliding down forty flights of stairs or something besides MINE CARTS ALL THE DAMN TIME. LOL

LOL I was just about to say my avatar! Except I don't think that it's from any game, I think it's just something that somebody else made up. I stole it from some roller coaster site somewhere. However, I think that I know where the whole mine cart phenomenon came from. I think that it began with Namco and Marvel Land! Of course in that game it was roller coaster cars, but the whole idea of hopping from cart to cart, jumping at just the right time while riding in some sort of cart on rails etc, seems to have been derived from that game, which as far as I know was the very first game to ever have any levels like that. I believe that they were bonus levels or something in Marvel Land, but apparently it was the arcade version of that game and it's success that started it all. Everyone else just used mine carts instead, trying to hide the fact that their version was just a blatant ripoff of what Marvel Land did first.

LOL LOL Cardboard box

Yes but not all games use them.
Some of them have the carts as background in a mine or cave level.

Guerilla War for the NES hasa couple mine cart sequences that serve as bonus rounds. You have to lasso hostages, or something like that.

Alundra for the PSX also has a mine level with mine carts towards the first 1/4 of the game.

Although I can't remember explicitly, Breath of Fire 3 for the PSX has a mine level right at the beginning, but I'm not sure if there are any carts; and even so, there may be a mine cart level later on in the story (haven't played it for years).

I could swear that earthworm jim and lemmings had some mine carts in them too

disney's aladdin (nes/snes/gen) magic carpet ride level might as well be a mine cart level lol

Gun.Smoke? I've never played much of it...

Blood Brothers (the arcade version) had mine carts, but you don't ride in any.

The mine cart in Gunstar Super Heroes has legs and can run on the ceiling. That's got to count for something.

And let's not forget Bio Force Ape (http://64.53.95.207/ujap/ape/bfa.html).

There are mine carts in a few of the dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.
I read this thread, then went and grabbed my Gameboy Color because I felt like playing it. The first room I walked into had a mine cart. 8-)

There's a particularly grueling mine cart sequence in Tomba 2...It actually caused me to shelve the game for a while. I'm gonna have to try that again someday.

One or two of the King's Field games had a section where you had to ride around in mine carts.

I can't remember the name, but it was a Genesis game featuring Looney Tunes characters. In one level you are Wiley Coyote and you ride a mine cart along a rope. Anybody know what I'm talking about?
