Some people like the VCR style. Its old school boxy-ness. Its sharp, bright picture quality. The original controllers have a sweet color scheme, too.
The Top-Loader. Its got a sweet look, and its pretty small. Games work easily on them. Dog-Bone controllers rule the skool.
The Famicom. Its got cool colors, and the controllers fit onto the console( dont they?) You can use a Famicom disk system+ a bunch of exclusive titles from japan.
Famiclones? I dont know how many there are...which do you like?Pirate games are the sweetness...
Hmmm...Anyone?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Agreed. I like the design of the Top-loader, but they took out the AV outs, so fuck em. The toaster is the OG classic nintendo, and with proper care they work just fine.

After years of blowing, bashing, Q-tipping, queitly negotiating,
screaming curses, begging , pleading, hoping to get my NES games to play  ...I got a Top-Loader :D .
I use to love and hate the NES because it took so long for it work.It seemed to take magical powers. Plus, half the games were a complete mystery as they had not worked until last year.
I walked into my favorite thrift by chance, and that Top-loader was so beutifull sitting there all by itself. I ran over and snatched it up; the owners berely noticed, they think Im crazy for liking the stuff so much ;)
Ill never let go of this console, not even for a better looking one. Ill always see it as one of my better finds.

Shouldn't there be a selection for the AV Famicom?
Also, as much as having a top-loading system helps, the fact that so many of the games out in the wild are dirty as hell means I still have to whip out the Q-Tips. :(

Toaster 4 life. Mines 13-14 years old and still going strong 8-)

Well, I've had my toaster forever, so the choice is rather one-sided. :D

The Toaster looks and acts like a VCR that plays games. +10 cool points.
The Top-Loader is streamlined and slick, but no A/V ports? +1 cool point.
However, nothing, nothing can compare with the Sharp Twin. Plays both Famicom and FDS games. Smooth design, with controllers that fit inside the system...mmm, sexy.

I like them all (don't have a famiclone tho) but I 'd have to say my fav is my AV Famicom - all the goodness of the NES toplooader with the AV ports instead of the nasty RF.
But how can you go wrong with Nintendo at any rate??

The toaster, hands down. I wouldn't pass up a top loader at a reasonable price, though.

The toaster NES is better looking, better quality, better everything. And once you add in the nostalgia factor, it's no contest*.
*HUGE QUALIFIER: Above statements only true for those of us who are capable of properly maintaining the system (ie: keeping the system and games clean).

The Toaster Style Nes will Always hold a place in my heart..I remember so many years ago my Brother and I got a nes when they first came out..We played Super Mario Bros and Zelda So Much...We manage to beat Super Mario Bros but Zelda we could never beat..Until a Couple of years Ago..Anyways the Orignal Nes is my choice.

I've never had the chance to own a famicom or a famiclone. I would have loved the model 2 NES but it had no AV ports. No AV ports, no splitting out my audio to my stereo ='s unhappy camper so the old style wins simply because of the AV port.

I'd say Famiclone. :D It's interesting to me to see all of the odd styles (with decent functionality these days, too) and wonder: "How (or Why) did they do that?"

Toaster for nostalgia value...
Top-Loader for practicality value...
Got tired of scrubbing the toaster every time i changed the game so i bought new connectors for it. Then, after my failed first-aid attempt, i sprung the $75 and got my T.L. Dont give a crap about the lines, it's still well worth it...
To this day any game i put in my toaster wont come out because it fits so tight. :/

Toaster power baby ! Clear as all get out and anybody can take the thing apart and fix em if there is a problem. And If I am too lazy , I just use one of the 11 or 12 other units I have while I fix or tweek the suspect unit.
I like the top loader dont get me wrong. But a clear pic is key for me. Top Loader is my work horse when it comes to testing games :D

why the hell is it called the toaster? O_O
real toasters load from the top. @_@
anyways i voted for the "toaster" version, it's more old-school, more people recognise it. prolly of half the people who owned a NES, if you showed them a top loader they'd be like "what the hell?"

It's called a "toaster" because of the loading mechanism. Put the bread in... push it down.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has issues with the name...I actually had no idea which version it meant until I realized "toaster OR toploader? must be the greybox, then..."
...I voted for the greybox, but I'd do the AV Famicom ic that was an option. Toploader design, grebox functionality. :)
