Ah, the Saturn. A 2D fighting game fan's best friend. Most of Capcom and SNK's best work to date can be found on this machine (and almost all of it is import-only) If you're a fighting game fan (and I know you are) you owe it to yourself to get one of these...arcade-perfect Capcom fighters and ALL the sprites in SNK fighters....plus short load times and a great 6-button controller. The Saturn is definitely the best 2D fighter system.

My Saturn Fighters:
Street Fighter Alpha
Nightwarriors: Darkstalker's Revenge
X-Men Children of the Atom (import)
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter
Vampire Savior
Pocket Fighter
King of Fighters '96
King of Fighters '97
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Samurai Spirits 3: Zankuro Musuoken
Samurai Spirits 4: Amakusa Kourin

Still looking to get:
Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness
Waku Waku 7
Fatal Fury 3
Marvel Super Heroes (even the U.S. version supports the RAM cart! Sweet!)

:D Ohyeah, the Saturn is indeed the 2D fighters best friend. I have Marvel vs. Streetfighter...it's arcade perfect. But i dont play it anymore. Also in my opinion, the US Marvel Superheroes still shows some slowdown even with the ram cart.

Yep, the Saturn hosts almost every major 2-D fighter from the mid-'90s, and a few obscure ones as well. Has anyone played Banpresto's Sonic Council? It's rare, and supposedly quite good.

Real Bout on Saturn isn't too shabby either.

"Hey, how's it going dude?! Choose your favorite character!"

"Be tough, or be dead, big guy."

Teehee.

I should talke a look at Sonic Council. I'm always interested in fighters made by obscure companies.

@Tetsu: That Real Bout Special announcer....he has to be the most annoying announcer in a 2D fighter. Even worse than Street Fighter Alpha 3!

"Wow! This next opponent looks ready to kill!"

How is Groove on Fight, Butta? I've heard differing opinions of it.

groove on fight has great cover art, heh.

actually i havent gotten into it too much, but from the time i have played it, its definately a decent tag team fighter. very very funky character design, including 2 old grannies that fight back to back and are strapped together. when they win they morph into 2 young hotties. total weirdness. besides that, the combo system is decent, there are some pretty cool specials, including one where a character who looks like she should be in darkstalkers, plays the piano while a huge grim reaper flies through the sky and slices your opponent. the game is actually pretty bloody, but i havent figured out if there are fatalities or not. i also really need to find a faq, as there is a super meter like in capcom games, i just dont know how to do the super's. i think my only gripe with the game thus far is that it is a tad bit slow at times, but nothing major.

if you got the money, id recommend adding it to your saturn library.

EDIT: another cool thing about the game is that, when you defeat one opponent, he stays on screen while you fight the second opponent. either you or your opponent can pick up the dead person and throw him, hehe.

Virtua Fighter 2 on the Saturn is much better then Tekken 3 on the PS1. It's my favorate 3D console fighter of all time, has been sense I got it with my first Saturn.

Also Fighters Mega mix
Vighting Vipers
DOA

as for 2D everyone knows the Vs. games are perfect ports on the Saturn. I think Asuka 120% whould have sold better if they had thrown in more Echii. sure there are fighting high school girls who jiggle, but no panties or nudity? common!

Raedon is right, VF2 is better. Anyone played the Genesis version? Virtua Fighter 2 as a 2D fighter! It's better than it sounds.

Comparing Virtua Fighter to Tekken is like comparing Go to Chutes & Ladders.......

Seriously, Saturn just has *so* many good games it could almost stand on it's own as a system given even just any one genre of it's library.

I mean, 2D Fighters, 3D Fighters, RPGs, Action Games, it's just got one of the best game libraries of any system.

I've played 120%, and for unlike most other all-female fighters, they actually put effort into the game engine. It's not the deepest fighter out there, but it's very very fun, and worth the import if you can get it. I like the pro wrestling character myself.

Yes I loved my Sega Saturn and miss it dearly :( Streetfighter Alpha 2 on SS how I miss the.

The only thing that remains of my once proud Sega Saturn collection is a simple Saturn deck (US) and one single controller. anyway thats a long and boring story.

I would have to put Sega Saturn in 3rd as a 2-D fighters dream right behind the almighty Neo-Geo and right next to the Dreamcast.

I have only owned a Saturn for one year, but whole hardily agree the best console for 2d fighting. Maybe it’s just me but comparing any console to the neo-geo doesn't seem fair.

After reading this thread a question occurs. How was the mortal kombat series on the Saturn? Was it better than the PSX and if so Why?

Ooookay, you're getting the hang of it, but you gotta search for the right threads.

Saturn= The King of Fighters...literally...

What can you say? The best of Capcom and SNK in one unit, which only the Dreamcast can offer as well.

Yet when it comes to the true blue classics, Saturn is where it's at.

Plus I'm shocked that one has mentioned these two

Import:
Capcom Generations Vol. 5 (Street Fighter 2 World Warriors, SF2 CE, and SF2 Champion Edition)

USA/Import
Street Fighter Collection (Super SF2 TNC+ Turbo and the gift from Capcom....Street Fighter Alpha 2 GOLD)

if you love Saturn have a look at my rather dated collection page at my sig - I haven't had time to update for some time now...

Click only if you are on broadband as it's littered with pictures

just some of stuff I've collected for last ten years or so...

Funny this thread should show up. A friend of mine recently got bitten by the Saturn bug and we were playing Street Fighter Alpha which still feels solid even today. The colors seemed a little muted, and the animation didn't have a ton of frames per second, but the gameplay and the presentation as a whole were so... invigorating! \^_^/

(If nothing else, the Saturn version blows way past the PSX version. Also, "Mmm, need to get Clockwork Knight 1 & 2 soon...")
