Yesterday, I got one of those hand-held Intellivision games- the one that looks like a blue controller, and has a number of games.

DO NOT BUY ONE!

This thing is pathetic. The games are nothing like I remember them, and as for Tower of Doom- the main reason I bought it-

1) You are automatically made to play the "Novice" level- you cannot choose another!

2) No choice of characters!

3) You cannot bribe a monster, or do anything other than swing your sword in battle.

4) Worst of all- once you reach the stairs, YOU CANNOT DESCEND!!! All this thing does is start you over, as if the game was pretty much reset.

Several games do seem to work (such as Thin Ice and Thunder Castle), but overall- this thing is junk. Shun it.

Are those Namco Collection games (with Rally-X and Bosconian) as bad?

The general concensus is that the Intellivision one is the worst of the bunch, followed closely by Frogger.

Look on the bright side -- there's nowhere to go but up!

Well, I was able to return it for a full refund.

I cannot stress this enough- DO NOT BUY ONE. Even if you can get it for 5 dollars.

Hopefully, those Namco Collections are better. Bosconian?

At least those jacks I bought work. The Atari 7800 now runs off of a 12V battery, just like to little television. Does anyone know the amperage the 7800 takes?

Yeah, you know, I love the guys and all, but I have not been remotely impressed with any of the Intellivision products past the original Intellivision Lives! for the PC. Those controller units are absolute garbage.

I just got one for free. Should I go back and ask them for a buck or two? LOL

yeah i've done my "they suck" rant in another thread but look at this page

http://www.intellivisionlives.com/retrotopia/direct2tv.shtml

did any of these guys actually play the damn things? i dont have a good feeling about the CV stuff coming out, in fact i'm begining to think "techno source TV power" is the video game world's answer to cafe press clothing.

My girlfriend bought one of these for me last year. I was stoked because I had never played an Intellivision before; boy was I unimpressed. I assumed it was the selection of games, but I guess it goes a little deeper than that.

Some of the games control so badly that they're unplayable (the Solar Jetman/Asteroids-style game is particularly heinous about this). I can't pass the second level of Thunder Castle either...Even after I touched the "power animal", I die every time I touch a wizard (he dies as well). Is that supposed to happen, or is that an artifact of how crappy this thing is?

I much prefer the PC Intellivision Lives! and Intellivision Rocks! compilations, especially with all the extras they contain.

the namco sticks suck as well

a 4-way joystick on bosconian, and an 8-way stick for Ms Pac Man

though Pole Position plays like a dream with the twisting motion made with the top of the joystick

No way in a hundred years will I go near any CV equivalent.

First of all, how will they do it? The vast majority of CV games require the keypad; that's how you select the game you want (there are usually 8 choices).

And if it's as bad as that piece of trash- DID these people actually know what Intellivision games are really like?- they should pay people just to look at it. I cannot possibly stress how bad it is. Why did they even include Tower of Doom?

Well- guess I'll have to find an Intellivision 2. Hopefully, it's still possible to find games such as Tower of Doom for it.

Bleah.

I would say to avoid that one. There's no voice in Bosconian. The Ms. Pac-Man one is pretty good though.

I noticed GameStop is dropping the prices on these. I got the 2600 Paddle one for $10.

Other than the voice, though, do the games play well?

I don't get it. Opcode can produce magnificent translations on an ordinary ColecoVision; look at the Pac-Man Collection and Space Invaders Collection. And Wizard of Wor will be the BEST home version. So why can't these people, with all of today's technology, produce good versions of games run by consoles which, by today's standards, were powered by a Dorito?

DO NOT BUY ONE!

Too late for me. I bought the 25-in-1 back in '03 at CGE2K3. This was the first time I ever bought an Intellivision game and once I played it I thought "Intellivision is better than Atari? I don't THINK so!" I did think Astrosmash was good and I thought Shark! Shark! was fun (especially while playing the Lounge Shark! Lounge Shark! song from the "Intellivision in Hi-Fi" CD). I agree about Tower of Doom, it sucks BIG TIME on that controller.

Hopefully, those Namco Collections are better.

I think so. Galaxian and Galaga play GREAT on the Namco systems and I have lots of fun playing them on the Namco systems (I even built holders for the games: link (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48138&highlight=)) The other games seem to play OK but I'm spending to much time on Galaxian and Galaga to notice.
