Are there any characteristics of a modern new current gen game that lets you know that its an actual new copy of the game and not a reseal?

To me a sealed DVD game is a sealed DVD game and I probably couldn't tell if it were resealed or not. I ask this because I wonder if there will be a market for unopened coies of these games years from now since you couldn't be sure that they were really new or not.

You can usually tell if the stickers on the boxes are broken or not. It is nearly impossible to open a game without damaging any of the stickers in any way, if not impossible. If the game isn't shrinkwrapped but still has those seals, it is as good as new to me.

Ok, i'm going to assume you already know the difference between shrinkwrap and cellophane...

Only a few exceptions come with shrinkwrap - Games like Silent Hill II (PAL), Ico LE (PAL) and a few others which come in cardboard box's. Unlimited Saga (PAL) comes in proper cellophane with a tear strip though, so don't get confused...

I can only speak for a few types of games:

PAL Xbox

Usually comes with a white "Certificate Of Authenticity" sticker down the side of the case (Which EVERY Xbox game should have if brand new...) and should also be unbroken / perfect.

They also have the folded style cellophane covering the whole of the case.

Exceptions are Steel Battalion which came in a brown packing case (To protect the inner case) which was sealed with Capcom tape.

PAL PlayStation / PlayStation 2

With a few exceptions, Psone and PS2 games generally always come in proper cellophane which will also have an official PlayStation embossed tear strip.

NTSC U/C PlayStation / PlayStation 2

Also come in proper cellophane. A majority of games come with tear strips, but some do not. Be aware of shrinkwrap - Especially on some of the rarer games like Star Ocean II and the black label Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII's...

American PlayStation / PS2 games also have a white security sticker on the top which should be intact and unbroken.

PAL GameBoy / GBC / GBA

The European GameBoy games tend to come in thick cellophane which will have an official Nintendo tear strip down the left hand side.

This tends to be mainly first party Nintendo games though, and there are exceptions. Sonic games in particular always seem to never have the Nintendo tear strip...

I will say though that a majority of GameBoy / GBC / GBA games come with this Nintendo embossed tear strip though.

PAL SNES / Nintendo 64

As with GameBoy games, these also should come with thick style cellophane and have an official Nintendo tear strip going down the left hand side.

PAL GameCube

Also like GameBoy, N64, and Snes games, GameCube games come in thick cellophane with a Nintendo tear strip. There are exceptions though, in which case the tear strip will be just a clear one (Ie, Resident Evil; Zoocube; Super Monkey Ball et al)

PAL Ngage

These games come in ultra thick cellophane! Always come with a white tear strip running along te bottom half of the case.

Also come with a white security seal down the side which should be unbroken.

PAL DreamCast

You know the score by now - Thick style cellophane, white tear strip going along the bottom portion of the case... One or two exceptions where there is no tear strip, but beware of shrinkwrap!!!

Discussed earlier concerning US current gen games

The more games I see, the more Xbox games are disappearing off the list, as they all come with cellophane folded seal. The real battle will come in when you collect new and/or sealed GameCube games, feel free to contribute to the list or help me take a few games off the list if you see one.
