That mine cart thread QOF did gave me the idea to make this thread. Cats may not be as prominent in video games as say, mine carts, but there are a lot of them out there.

So, what games have cats in them? Either as a playable character or background or whatever.

Here's a few to get things started:

Katamari Damacy - I'll give you one guess as to what you can do with them.
Chrono Trigger - In Chrono's house and the Millenium Fair.
Claymates - In this SNES platformer, you play a clay ball that can morph into different animals, including a cat. Speaking of that...
Clayfighter - Before a fight you'd see the cat from Claymates (or one of the other animals) scroll by on the screen.

Felicia is a playable character from the Darkstalker's series.

Alleycat is an amazing cat game from the Atari 8-bit, Apple II, PC computers. In the game you control the alleycat where have to jump into the fishbowl, knock over bird cages, and drink milk from saucepans in a room full of sleeping dogs. Your main enemy is a giant broom. Strange, but true, and it's very fun too.

from here: http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/sc2/aliens/shofixti.shtml

A Shofixti resembles a large marsupial carnivore - sort of a killer shrew - who exhibits furious aggressive behavior contained within a strong ethical framework. When the Yehat first found them in 2075, the Shofixti were living in fortified mud castles in a feudal society similar to medieval Japan. The Yehat had such admiration for these feisty little warriors that they immediately "adopted" them and took responsibility for the Shofixti's uplift, swearing that no "peace-loving" race would be allowed to dilute the Shofixti's noble warlike tendencies. During the war the primary responsiblity of the Shofixti starships was to act as advanced scouts, establishing mines, colonies, and fortifications throughout the stars.

I had a game for my IBM PC that was mostly pink and white in color, and you were a cat. You'd have to jump up the trash cans, onto the fence, and avoid dogs and such. Anyone remember that?

In the obscure import Saturn 2D fighter "SONIC COUNCIL" one girl fights with her cat... this cat can turn into a saw blade among other things.

In yet another obscure import Saturn game, a puzzler "COIN PUZZLE MOUJIYA" the game centers around 8+ cats who play a puzzle game of consolidating japanese money (yen)

Mousing Cat for the Philips Videopac

There's a catlike race in Master of Orion... Mrrshan is the name I believe. Perhaps the worst race in the game to play as.

There's been at least a couple of Tom & Jerry games...one called simply that on the SNES and one called, I believe, Tom & Jerry: War of the Whiskers for one of the current consoles...PS2? I haven't gotten to play it yet but I would be surprised if Dog's Life didn't have a few cats in it. There's also the NES game Felix the Cat and I believe there's at least one Sylvester game out there...on the Genesis, I think. He probably also shows up on some other multi-character WB games...Looney Tunes B-Ball, perhaps? And if you count the PC, don't forget The Sims: Unleashed in which you get to adopt pets.

It's Mewtwo. Also, there is a cat creature called Mew, which was only attainable by a glitch in the Red version, using a Game Genie or similar device, or by going to a Mew giveaway by Nintendo (never came to the states.)

Anyway, my submissions:
1. The Garfield and Pink Panther protos fo Atari 2600.
2. Mappy. (I can't believe no one thought of that.)
3. Foxy Roxy from Brutal: Paws of Fury.

I'd forgotten about Itchy & Scratchy...and don't forget, I think they got their own game, didn't they?

We fight...and fight...and fight and fight and fight...

I mentioned earlier in this thread that there was a Sylvester game for the Genesis. Looking in my trusty DP guide, I see the official title was Sylvester and Tweety in Cagey Capers. Also, don't forget about all those Ren & Stimpy games...

There's also a cat in Dark Cloud on the PS2. If I remember right you meet it in one of the dungeons, bring it home (or meet it again there) and then it transforms into the second character (girl) from the game.

Ultima Online has all sorts of cats in it, from alley cats wandering around towns to fire-breathing hellcats in dungeons.

Sly Cooper 2 and Pyscho Fox both have tigers, there are cats in Legend of Legia 2 (Actually, there seem to be cats wandering around town in just about any Japanese style RPG from at least Chrono Trigger on up.)

One that comes to mind which hasn't been mentioned yet is One Piece Mansion (Playstation). One of the tenants you can get is a nice old cat lady who has a bunch of (you guessed it) cats!

Uhh....there's a goofy-lookin' tiger who chases you through the jungle in stage 4 of Fantasy. All you have to do to evade him is get above or below him, and double back behind him and let him get ahead of you. Problem solved!
