Many of you know Alone in the Dark as the series that really kicked off survival horror years before there was a Resident Evil. I loved the first game, was bitterly frustrated by the second game, and thought the Dreamcast version was vastly underrated.

And now... a movie deal?

Infogrames, Inc. has entered into an agreement with Dritte/Vierte Boll Kino Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co KG (Boll Kino) that gives the German firm exclusive worldwide theatrical film rights to the Alone in the Dark videogame series.

The deal also encompasses video, DVD, television, cable and pay-per-view rights to the movie. Infogrames retains all other rights to the franchise, including free TV and cable film rights.

Shooting on the movie is scheduled to begin in 2003 on location in Vancouver. Dr. Uwe Boll will serve as the projects director and producer. Shawn Williamson of Birghtlight Pictures Inc. will produce the movie.

Boll said, "This game provides an incredible opportunity to produce an exciting feature film and we look forward to capturing the unique and frightening qualities of Alone in the Dark."

Seen the trailer. Actually doesn't look that bad beyond the usual CG creatures.

I'm sure that there will soon be a new game game based on the movie that was based on a game.

Well, it does not look as bad as HOTD, which Uwe Boll also directed. I'll wait for this one to come out on DVD or, hit it up if it goes to the cheap theaters.

My sisters old BF had this for 3DO (i think). Shortly after he bought it they split up and I havent played it since. Man I missed that game, but compared to how far video game technology has come since then, I'm sure I wouldnt be nearly as impressed as I was back then If I were to play it again... [/sorta off topic]

Havent seen the trailer yet, but if it looks good I would like to go. Of course I am very against paying movie theater prices for this kind of stuff tho, its dam near robbery... so chances are ill catch it on DVD or HBO some time

Hmmm...I don't know. Director looks lame, but Christian Slater is a decent actor....could pull it out of the toilet... :D

I saw the trailer in an EB a while back, and I'm still not sure what to think of it. The $9.50 price of admission will keep me from seeing it in the theatre (unless it excellent), but there is a local 2nd string theatre where it's only $1.99 for any movie, so I'll probably see it there.

Um, there was also a third PC game before The New Nightmare. Set in the Old West, that one.

Methinks we should stop referring to these movies as releated to the games in any way other than name only. Previous experience suggests any other similarity is coincidental.

Well having completed the Dreamcast version of Alone in the Dark A New Nightmare which is the only version I have played I will say it definitely seems to be based on that version. Enjoyed the game, like Slater so I will see it regardless. I can only Dream of good Videogame movies one day but hey since we're getting a new Batman with Christioan Bale and Superman with Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor I guess anything can happen!!!!!!! :D

I very unfortunately saw this movie this weekend. It was a horrible, lame, stupid excuse for a movie. The plot was completely incoherent, and it was impossible for me to suspend my disbelief for ANY part of the movie. It was very poorly written, with a mostly unexplained, broken plot (transition from scene to scene made very little sense). The action scenes were rediculously stupid with a bunch of flashing lights and gunfire. The script ityself was HORRIBLE, and was filled with cliched situations and lines. The music mostly did not fit any of the scenes. It's like they just took some stock music they had on hand and just threw it in there rather than have somebody write music specifically for this movie.

This movie screams "budget!" and I've seen highschool students do better. The movie was a fucking joke. Even a bunch of 12-year-olds behind me we bitching about how fucking lame this movie is. I can't believe Slater would stoop this low. This shit was low even for Tara Reid...and that's pretty fucking bad.
