Hey everybody,

Anyone got any experience troubleshooting a GameCube? I'm comfortable doing repairs on it, but would like to know exactly what's wrong before I order a bunch of parts.

Right now it powers on but does not recognize any game discs, just goes to the menu screens. There's a whirr and a click inside when the power goes on so it recognizes the lid is closed (and I just replaced a broken lid switch). I've checked and the red laser light comes on. Have tried adjusting the laser w/o success. No disc errors, it just doesn't recognize when one is inserted and doesn't spin up. Have tried 3 different games so it isn't a bad disc. Guessing something with the laser or the spindle motor.

Any ideas? If anyone wants it to repair themselves, feel free to make an offer. At this point I'm considering just buying a new one.

Thanks.

You need a new laser, gauranteed. The cheapest source of good new lasers is, new gamecubes. Really.

Sorry!

go to thegametrader.com and shell out 40 bucks and you can have your cube repaired... we buy our lasers wholesale... but, if you wanna do the repair yourself, buy a new gamecube and sell the broken one on ebay... there's really no cheap source for single lasers

I used to buy lasers wholesale, but the fail rate was ungodly for the batch I got. @_@ Of the 40% that passed tests, some of them came back from customers weeks later.

You guys must have better stock.
