Because apparently they think they can charge your credit card whenever they feel like it, even though I haven't placed any orders with them in over 3 months.

Back in October of last year, I ordered a used Gamecube game. When I received it, it was the right case but the wrong game inside. I called them to set up a return. They did not have a replacement game in stock, so I requested to just get a refund. The rep I spoke with said I would see a refund on my credit card within 48 hours. Nearly three weeks went by and I never saw anything on my (online) credit card statement. I called the credit card company and they informed me that a merchant's refund can take up to 30 days to go through but still wanted me to fill out the paperwork to dispute the charge. I said that was fine and filled out the necessary paperwork and sent it back to the credit card company. Several days later I receive a letter from the CC company saying that have settled the dispute and the charge was taken off my card.

I thought everything was over at that point.

Today, I checked my CC balance and what do I see? A new charge from Gamestop.com for $19.98 with a transaction date of 10/7/04 and posting date of 2/7/05. I immediately called them up and told them to take that charge off my card and explained the entire story of what happened last October. The girl I spoke with sounded like she was in high school and acted a little confused. She wanted me to email her a screenshot of my online CC statement that shows the charge, which I was not too comfortable with but since the actual CC number doesn't appear on the screen I agreed and sent it. Now I am waiting to see what happens but I plan on having to get the credit card comapny involved again too.

So keep your credit cards away from Gamestop.com folks!!!

You probably oughta think about reporting them to the BBB. They shook down Sony when my PS2 wasn't working.

EB.com similarly does this.

Just a thought...

You can order back ordered games on GameStop.com and they will ship them when they get them in stock and charge you at that time. Perhaps they got the game in stock and shipped it to you? You still shouldn't have to pay, but that just seems to me to be the logical solution.

Show some support for you hometown shop or they will not last and the only place to get games will be online!

I don't order games online anyway. I had enough of Gamestop after their component switch debacle back in December. I STILL have that $20 off any order coupon that I haven't used. Ha, anyone wanna trade something for it?

The only time I order from them online is when I can get FREE shipping on a NEW game. That way I save a few bucks from buying it at a local store...because tax tax doesn't apply. :D It's pretty cheap ass but I've done it on many occasions with out a problem.

As far as USED games go, I've only bought one from them and I will never again. It's just not fun to receive a incomplete game in a sucky plastic sleeve, with scratches. Ya know? :(

You can ALWAYS get free shipping at gamestop.com. Use the coupon code FREESHIPALL on your cart screen.

ive had a similar run in wth EBgames a few months ago when i ordered a few gamecube games..... you will have better luck using ebay and going to local independant shops...they need your support anyways, not eb and gamestop....the only time i EVER go in is when they have a used sale like buy 2 get 1 free or something

It's a stupid question, but I didn't see it addressed in your initial post:

You did return the wrong game they sent to you, right? If not, they may have charged you because you didn't return their merchandise.

Yes I did...they emailed me a Fedex return label and I sent it back to them the same day.

A solid 30-45 minutes to the closest one in GOOD traffic. And it sucks, with terrible selection and for the most part worse prices than EB.

So I just buy stuff from my own EB mostly, especially when there's good deals or I can work the system hehe.

Oh BTW watch for a Buy 2 Get 1 free on all Pre-owned video games in the middle of February

Can you actually use those multiple times? Anyone tried? I used both. One in late December and one in late January. Just got the one in last week. I ordered the switchers I wanted. I paid $63 each after shipping. I guess even though I am pissed at them, I still want the things, and it's better than paying $80 each for it IN STORES or $100 each at other stores.
