What is your most memorable NES find in the wild? Finding a rare game? Finding a game you wanted to own but couldn't find anywhere? Coming across a bunch of games in a thrift store/pawn shop/yard sale/etc. for next to nothing? Something else? Tell us about it! If you've got a story, share it, and if you've got pics, share them!

For me, I don't have an NES in my collection yet (although I want to own one someday) so my find isn't that impressive - it was a loose cart of Stack Up for $7.99 at a Game Crazy. A friend of mine had just bought a ROB off of ebay and was interested in getting the game. I was at that Game Crazy the day before and remembered that I saw Stack-Up there, so I told him about it and he told me to get it and he'd pay me back, so I went back the next day and bought it.

I have two finds that I consider to be especially good. The first was about 5 years ago, when I found a complete copy of Tengen Tetris at a local video store for like $3.99. They had no idea. I also found Qix there for like 2 bucks.

The second was when I found about 20 complete and near mint NES games at a thrift store. Mostly R3s and R4s, but also Namco Ms. Pac-Man, which is like an R7.

When I was in middle school there was a comic book store which has used NES games for trade. Basically, you traded in any two games for one game on their shelf. Doomed to fail, don't you think?

Anyway, I had seen previews/reviews of River City Ransom in Nintendo Power and always thought it sounded like the best game in the world. Saw it at the comic book store, traded in Mario/Duck Hunt, and Mario/Duck Hunt.

i guess if i've achieved any sort of notoriety in the classic gaming world, it's because many years ago, i found a box full of caltron 6 in 1s at a thrift store here in l.a.: 15 shrinkwrapped, 1 complete and 1 loose (they're all long gone by now). don't know if it was a video store, a game store, or hell, someone related to the caltron company that dumped them there, but i thought the $30 i paid for the box was fair.

and speaking of fair prices to pay, here's a written-on price that i've never thought of trying to wipe off... ;)

My first great nes find ever was back in 1994 when I was in my church youth group and we were having a church garage sale to raise money for a youth trip I sold a ton of whatever and was looking around and found a few things I liked and what not then one of the girls I knew was selling nes games for 50 cents (in 1994) I bought two games and then sHE had a Aladdin deck enhancer, at the time neither one of us knew what it was (it came with dizzy) since she didn't know what it was she just gave it to me.

Six months ago I found a Xenophobe Prototype in Salvation Army for 1.99.

I'm gonna have to travel way back for this one...back to when the nes was still in it's prime and snes wasn't even mentioned yet for a couple more years.

Metal Gear + Contra for $15 total at a yard sale (both complete!). Even today, it's a fair price, but these two babies where probably still $40-50 at the time.

I think even before that I bought about 5 or 6 (loose) games off my older cousin for $10 a pop (my parents must've helped me out or something, because there's no way I could've afforded $50 at that age). Games included gradius, metroid, castlevania, solomon's key, and I believe tennis and commando. edit: oh yeah, wizards and warriors was definitely in there.

So out of those two purchases, I got some of the best releases ever for the system (imo).

Sure, those games can be had for $1-3 now, but you just can't beat those bargains for back in the day.

Man... some of you guys have got some crazy deals! My best deals are pathetic in comparison, but here they are:

Tengen Tetris = $6 from EB a few months back
Mermaids of Atlantis = $4
Dragon Warrior 2 = $3
Trolls on Treasure Island (complete) = $4

Those are my best deals I got in the wild so far. I have scored some great deals on ebay, here they are:

Miracle Piano (complete) & NES with all hook ups+30 games = $90
Lot of 10 games all boxed for $12. One of the games was a complete Solitaire , and one was a boxed Panic Restaurant. I won this one last week. [/quote]

i found most of wisdom tree's library, and a few color dreams' games sealed/complete in a pawnshop a few years ago. they even had copies of the pc version of exodus. i also got 10 yard fight, snake's revenge, nightshade, hoops, tmnt, bases loaded sealed.

i got them all for $7 each, $5 for the sports titles. they were sitting there for a long time judging by the dust on them and the people in charge were happy to get rid of them so they gave me a discount (they were $10 each, and $7 each for sports title regular prices).

more recently i found a stack of boxed/complete nes games at a local goodwill. i was shocked when i looked in the display case when i found all four dragon warrior games, several other rpgs, legend of zelda, dragon's lair, q-bert, and a few others. they were all either boxed or complete and $3 each.

i didn't have enough cash on me to get them all so i bought the dragon warriors, bards tale, final fantasy, and legend of zelda. i was so happy that i sold my doubles of these games for cheap.

I think getting two loose Flintstones 2 carts on seperate occasions for $5 and $8 respectively may qualify as my best finds.

I also got a mint condition top-loader for $25 at a FuncoLand a few years back. It's been hooked up in my bedroom ever since. I don't think that's too shabby either.

Fire N' Ice w/box it's listed as an R6 on DP but more importantly it was the last game I needed to complete my Tecmo NES game collection. I found it at a record store that sells old games for 4.95. I was so excited I came straight home took a picture of the whole collection and posted it here on DP. Then went straight to playing it. :)

I've found 3 Flinstones 2 over the last two years. All of them were for 2.99. I traded one to a friend. Put one in my collection, and the third is awaiting a new home. Need to perform some minor label repair before selling it though. On the same night I found the 3rd Flinstones 2, I also found Pro Sport Hockey for 2.99 and won $100 at blackjack. Go me!

On my own, Action 52 for $7 back in 1995 or 96 at a local rental
store.

While working for my dad's store back in 1998, a man with one arm (a butcher!) and his family came into the store with 10 plastic bags FULL of loose NES games. Tengen Tetris, all 4 Dragon Warriors, and many others. Came to about 175-200 NES games. A week later he came back with Nintendo Powers 1-18 (all mint), Dragon Warrior 2 Tips Guide, and other rarities.

Ah, man, I remember those days! I was too damn busy buying SNES, PS1, and N64 games to even recognize the NES games. I was so stupid, that will never happen again when a new system is released and the current games are SLASHED in prices.

Hmm, let's see...so many places and buys over the years...A couple DO stand out though...Two separate occasions at Funcoland, Miracle Piano carts for 4 or 5 dollars with mint labels.
Also at Funcoland, Final Fantasy complete and very nice, $25
More recently at a Goodwill, 67 boxed titles, $2 apiece. Most notable of these was the following.
Pac-Mania
Crystal Mines (2 of these)
ALL 4 DW'S AND FF (all boxed, w/original wrappers & price tags, but they've been opened)
Panic Restaurant
Paperboy 2
Also, and the only reason I mention it is because I'd never seen it before, in the same lot, was Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, but in a large box with the manual, and the encyclopedia (book and box are perfect).
That's about all I come up with at any rate.

I remember those two on Toys R Us shelves...bought them there for 6.99 each in 1997 or 1998...

As for my best NES finds...well:

600-700+ NEW/MINT NES manuals for 5 bucks (including loads of unlicensed manuals as well as 2 copies of each Panesian game manual ;))
Cheetahmen II & 6-in-1 Myriad both factory sealed for 15-20 bucks each back in 1997 or 1998
150+ NES boxes for less than 100 dollars
A bunch of boxes & manuals for several extremely rare games @ Funcoland for free.
A Famicom clone & carrying case with lots of Famicom games and converters (including a cartridge-sized Honey Bee "Family Adaptor" that I've never seen anywhere before...not the half-cartridge-sized Honey Bee "Family Converter") for an oldschool Gameboy with some games/accessories back in 1998

and lots of other decent deals for rare games....

I got all those manuals at a local rental back in 1996 or 1997...they were selling all their NES games and I had bought around 100+ there, so they knew me pretty well by then (I was a little kid ;)) so they sold those manuals for a mere 5 bucks...also got a couple hundred NES see-through cases there for hardly any $$ :) I just wish I had started collecting NES stuff a few months earlier, because according to the manuals, they must have had 6 panesian games for sale as well as a load of other extremely rare games, all for 3 bucks each. :( I wonder who got their hands on those ;)

I think all my finds have been excellent, from coast to coast.

the first find that brought me to this forum was a sealed Us copy of qix for the nes. I sold to bronty for 250.00...kinda regret. I did get for 2 dollars though :P

Another time I bought a lot of two nes systems, 40 games, instruc. guides. had DW 1-3, tengen tetris, and some really good titles.

My best most recent find was from someone on CL. He sold me over 50 instruction booklets, 25 good games (tyson's punch out metroid, smb 2, smb 3 etc), a nes, all for 60.

Or I found over 30 sealed nes games (pretty common stuff) from a video game store at 3 bucks a piece.

well mine would be paying $10 for the prototype S.C.A.T. in Maui on my honeymoon. Man my wife is cool. The guy at the store couldn't decide if he wanted to sell it to me or keep it. I talked him into selling it to me :D .

I have a lot of awesome finds in the NES section.

The first would be around August 8th 2004. I bought 68 NES games and 3 SNES games for under $20. Some of the highlights are:

Adventure Island 3
Lolo
Lolo 2
Lolo 3
Maniac Mansion (I was talking about this one a lot the day before)
Megaman 2
Megaman 3
Megaman 4
Uninvited

(EDIT: A copy of Power Blade 2 was in this lot.)

All of them were in good condition too, With the exception of Dr. mario Wich had a suntan. (EDIT: Funny story is I later found a yellowed Top Loading NES that may have held this same copy of Dr. Mario for years.)

Here is another deal, Early may 2005:

Complete NES Power Set! EVERYTHING was included, including some plastic tray (What is it for?) And EVERYTHING was in pristine condition, The system still had the $159 price sticker from KMart on it. 5 Games included, counting the SMB/DH/WCTM cart.

Burgertime (Complete)
Challenge At Pebvble Beach? (Can't remember the name of it. Loose)
Donkey Kong Classics (Boxed)
Q* Bert (Complete, $35 price sticker is still on it)

Oh, I almost forgot to say what I paid for this! $10 for the lot! :)

Here is another great find, A couple months later:

NES System with box, 2 controlers and hookups. No manuals. (Core system - $4)

And here is a find earlier this year:

NES System With 10-15 games, Some complete and in beautiful condition:

Dynowarz (Complete)
NES Play Action Football (Complete and in beautiful condition)
Nintendo World Cup (Complete)
Punch-Out!! (Complete)
Super Mario Bros./Duck hunt (Loose, It's worthless to mention it :P )
Super Mario bros. 2 (Complete and in great condition)
Super Mario bros. 3 (Complete and in great condition)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Loose)
Tetris (Complete and in beautiful condition)

There were some other games included, But i can't remember them. Oh, I paid $9 for this lot.

Here is yet Another great find...

NES Rob the robot with all gyromite acc. And all in working order - $18 shipped off of ebay (EDIT: The seller ended the auction at a very bad time one May.)

Latest best find, find, In june this year:

I got about 63 games this time, 50 were NES, 8 were N64 and the rest were SNES. I paid $10 for the lot. All of them were loose or had a manual.

Nearly my whole collection. There are some things I paid a bunch for, but most things were found in the wild!

My SMB2 store sign (double sided 3D Mario... thing is HUGE!), Caltron 6in1 at a flea market for a few bucks, tons of bootleg games from a friend in Brazil... etc etc.

I wouldnt say it's the greatest find in the world, but one day i went to EBGames and some guy trading in a bunch of complete games in near mint condition.
I grabbed Breakthru, Tiger Heli, and The Legend of Zelda.

3 years ago - A complete, boxed copy of Gyromite. My nephews opened it. Then they lost the gyros and the thing that spins them.

I didn't let them touch any of my games in my collection for a long while after that.

Under the tree - Christmas 1987. A complete, mint-in-box NES with a complete, sealed Stinger.

Neither one are so complete, nowadays, but I still love 'em.

Brand new NES toploader for $69.99. This was in...1999 or 2000, i think. Still have it sitting in my closet. Still brand new. Kind of upset me to see all the bootlegs that hit the scene a couple years ago...certainly hit the resale value of this one, but it's still a nice collectible to have.

Also got DWIII for NES for $10 on GameTZ many years ago.
