My Genesis turns off in the middle of playing sometimes... If I wiggle the AC adapter prong it will turn back on.. (reset, of course.) Is there any way to ensure proper connection back there, perhaps some kind of conductive gel or something that will form a permanent connection?

Sounds like you either have a loose solder connection inside your Genny, or more likely the connector on the ac adapter has a broken wire that looses contact when the cord is bent the wrong way. Try to get another AC adapter from somewhere so you can test it out. I *THINK* NES adapters are exactly the same as the genny adapters. Anyone?

NES adapters are A/C. Don't do it!

If it's a Genesis 2, the power connector is mainly held in place by the solder on the board. I've seen plenty of cracked solder connections on these. Easy fix.

It is a Genesis 2. So, open it up and resolder the first point that is connected to the female point?

If you look at the underside of the board, you'll see 2 or 3 points where the jack is soldered to the board. If I had to guess, the big ground connector will have a cracked solder joint. Reflow all of the joints and see what happens.

The same thing happens in the Nomad, and possibly the Genesis 3. There's just no relief for the jack. On the Nomad, you can solder a tiny piece of wire from the strained connection to a nearby test pad which should help prevent the same situation from reoccuring. You can probably do the same in the Genesis 2.

With the Genesis 1, the power jack is on it's own tiny circuitboard with some room to pivot and absorb plug deflection.

It could still be something in the plug, but I've fixed about 5 bad Gen2 units that all had cracked solder, but haven't seen a bad plug yet.

The genny 2 is notorious for this . I have repaired around 100 for this exact issue. It takes less than 10 min to fix it.

Take the genny apart and remove the system board .

Then flip the board over and take a look at the spot where the adapter plugs in .

If you wiggle it and look underneath you should see a cold soldier joint there.

Somtimes you can just reheat it and that will fix it but I liked to ass a little more soldier to it so the fix will last.

Let me know if you you need any other help with it.

I also fixed a Genesis 1 with this problem.
