UPDATE: TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE BASE HAS GONE GOOOLLLDDDD! (http://www.digitpress.com/livefaq) in other words. it's open for bussiness. Begin sending in your stuff folks!

Well....the Framework for what will be the DP Technical section I've been going on and on about is actually, finally, setup on the website. All it needs is the one finishing touch banner for the top of it... which Arcade Antics is providing... luckily he's already done with it, I just need to receive it, so thats not a very long wait, then it's all up to Joe after that one to LINK IT! So..we could be looking at 24 to 48 hours of this being up and running fully for you folks.... if it takes longer, don't shoot me. :-).

For those of you who DON'T KNOW what this is again, Basically..... it's meant as a more convient alternative to the forums "Technical Restoration Society". People can post thier fixes, thier tech info and the like.

So. HOW Does this differ from say...what we have already? WELL I shall answer those questions:

** The Techincal Restoration Society (TRS) isn't categorized specfically...and quite all willy nilly. The Technical Section is grouped by System... have a problem with your Sega CD? Look in the Sega CD section! Wanna know why your NES keeps blinking.... look in the Nintendo NES Section!

** The TRS Has many questions.... And some go un-answered. The Tech Section WILL have GURANTEED ANSWERS to your problems if they are in the system and publically viewable....there *should* be an answer.

** The Technical section will Fully searchable by category... or the entire deal. While the TRS has search capability...by the forums feature...you can now be MORE Specfic and get the answers you crave based on what EXACTLY you want.

NOW, of course. It'll JUST have opened. It does'nt HAVE Any information yet! It's like a Blank Journal waiting to be filled with Knowledge!

Thats were you folks come in. When this place opens....I want you guys to "Add Records" of any info you might have of the systems... fixes you know of... such as NES Blink fixes, Maybe how to Mod an Ody2 for AV or change it's "Propertairy Cord" to a standard one... How to change a fuse in a Sega CD... **ANY INFO** you need or want to share, Add it!

NOW This won't make the Technical Restoration Society Obsolete, HECK NO. If you can't find what you are looking for in the Technical Section.... then we URGE YOU to use the TRS forum to post your question! When an answer is found, a new record regarding that question will be inserted into the Technical section! Of course....what we'd LIKE you to do..is to check the Technical section first before asking such a question, to make sure it has'nt already been answered. :-)

Thank you guys for a moment of your time, and taking the time to read this. I'm looking quite forward to running this. :-)

I'm pretty excited about this resource.

You may want to draft a few assistants to populate the stie with previously-acquired knowledge (I'd start with Omnedon!). This would also help down the road when you need to take a break or can't be around for a few days to clear new entries.

Looking forward to seeing this grow - I've long wanted a reference like this!

Thanks "Rocky"

8-)

Cool stuff! I may be the highest profile tech head in these parts, but there are many here with specializations in systems, that outstrip my experience.

For this to take off we need the FABombjoy's, jsoper's, D-Lite's and the other specialists to contribute. I'll put a sticky in TRS, to help point this out.

This is a great idea!

Cool, when it opens, I'll throw in on the stuff I know well, geared in arcade games.

and...I totally forgot an Arcade Machine section..which has now been added. :-)

Remeber...I just went down the DP Rarity guide and added the systems from that. If you guys don't see something in it once it's up (Possibly tonight folks!) that you think should be there...send me a PM or and E-mail, and I'll probably add it.

How about some room for system mods, too... I have pictures of most of the mods that I've done, including:

Composite:
Odyssey2
Intellivision
Famicom

S-video:
2600
5200
7800
Coleco
Master System
Genesis
Neo Geo

If you provide a template, I can reformat & rewrite my personal writeups so they're how-to guides with pictures and references.

I just noticed that the system supports sub-menus.

Instead of one honking big list of systems, how about categorizing them into Sega, Nintendo, Sony, etc with consoles and handhelds by those companies in submenus. For oddball stuff like Pippin and Adventurevision you could have catch all "Misc 8-bit", "Misc 16-bit", etc.

There is a link to expand the entire menu anyway, so even if you didn't like this structure you're a click away from getting all of the sub-menus displayed at once.

Thoughts?

That, and underneath those, categories for problem type. This is especially important for arcade games since they're so much more encapsulated.

Mods such as those would be found under thier specific category...like the O2 mod under the Odyessy 2 Section and what not.

As for SUB MENUing...Yes. A great Idea. In fact..I'll get right on grouping them now.

This is great news! I love to tinker with my consoles and whatnot. I might not have too much to contribute but a few tips here and there for some puddin' and PAL stuff.

WOW! Perfect timing, I just started disecting my extra systems I had lying around.

Question about adding content; I'm about to do a s-vid mod on a Genesis. I found a link on the Net on how to do this.

If I add content to this new database, I could tell you how I did the mod, but would also like to show where I found the original info.

Also, I suspect that the mod I'm going to do, might not be the best (picture quality wise), I would hope that if someone else had a better method, that mine would be ranked lower in viability.

I have an article up. I was wondering if there was a way to attach pictures to an article, or if one could edit their article.

That would be AWESOME if we could get a Tech entry on how to build a SuperGun / Consolize an MVS. Mosy Undoubtly a Knowledge Base Centerpiece. :-).

Now, another question:

Is there a way to add pictures to someone else's article? I was looking at the SMS no power article and was thinking a couple pics would REALLY help newbies with that one. I just happen to have an SMS with that exact problem so I could make the repair (the article's suggestion is a likely cause) and take some pics along the way... IF I could get them in with the article.
