I bought a CDX a while back, but it doesnt have an ac adapter with it. The CDX says it takes a 9.5 V 1.5 A input but all the replacement adapters ive found output 10 V and .3 A. Will my CDX work with these adapters? will it hurt the CDX in anyway if i would plug one in and try it out?

ebay might be your best bet.
I'm wary of using random AC adaptor as one of my Buddy's Sega CD (model 1) units started spitting out smoke when the incorrect AC adaptor was plugged into it. Sega CDX units are far to valuable (and cool) to mess around with it.
The good news is that you can still play it in the mean time b/c the CDX can run off batteries.

if you have an AC adaptor that fits it and is more than than the required volts and amps you will be fine, usually whatever it says it takes is the minimum and most adaptors have functions not to give to much juice

No. Only audio CD playback is possible on battery power.

I use a Sega Genesis power supply. I once used a NES power supply on a Atari Jaguar and smoked it. DC and AC are different :embarrassed:

A Sega Gensis power supply will work fine with the CDX.

Guess no one had the two minutes it took me to search google for "cdx power supply"
The CDX does indeed use the same AV cable and RF adapter that is used for
1994-era Sega components. The cables used for the Genesis 2, the 32x and
the Nomad will all work on the CDX. However, the CDX does have a higher
power specification than the Genesis 2.
The official part number you want it MK-4122, a 9 volt adapter that
produces 1.5 amps of power. The regular Genesis 2 power supply is the
MK-6104, which produces 9 volts at only .7 amps. The weaker power supply
will power the CDX adequately, but has the potential to overheat if you
run it for any length of time. If the Sega store or the usual sellers
can't provide you with the official CDX power supply, consider looking for
JVC part AA-S95J. This would be the power supply for the JVC X'eye and the
Wondermega, which are also Genesis/CD combo units and have the same power
requirements as the CDX.
If it were me, I would work very hard to look for the power supply. No
video game system is worth creating a fire hazard over, except maybe for
the Vectrex. :)

This topic seems to come up over and over, and there are always lots of different, contradicting answers. When I asked it myself several months ago, the most common response was that the Genesis 2/Game Gear/Nomad/etc. power supply is fine. I used a Genesis 2 power suppy with mine, and while I haven't played it a whole heck of a lot since buying it (maybe 10-20 hours total), I haven't had any problems.
