NWC Gold cart questions--How were these distributed?

Hi folks,

I was talking to one of the 90 finalists in the NWC, and he was telling me how they were all handed grey NWC carts in a big meeting with all the other finalists. My understanding is that one gold was given away in Nintendo Power magazine and the other 25 known golds were given away in the competition.

Now, the person I was speaking to, Adam Misosky, actually came in 2nd place out of everyone in the youngest age group...he almost won the whole shebang! He, nor anyone else he knew in the competition got a gold cart. So, how were the 25 gold carts distributed? Can anybody give me the scoop on this? He thought all 26 were given away in NP...

I have always thought that there were 90 grey carts given to the NWC winners, and the gold carts were given away in the back of Nintendo Power magazine.
They were listed in the back pages of the July/August 1990 issue. I just checked, and in the back of the magazine they say there are only 25 winners, so I have no idea.
