All it plays are audio cd's... all games just sit there and say "wait while disk is being detected"

Is it dead? This will be the 4th one I've encountered to do this! And the game isn't scratched BTW.

ur laser is jammed, it wont read far enough to the outer edge of the disc, which is required for games, trypushing it in, but dont touch the laser itself, or that will create a new set of problems

Yeah haveing 4 go out on you doesn't sound right.

Do you play in a dusty smoky place?

Play a lot of burned gmaes?

Pee on your systems?

Or other wise abuse your systems?

My current DC has the most playtime of any system that ive owned since the original NES and still works great and its over 4 years old.
Its loud as hell  but still plays great.
not sure why some ppl seem to have so many problems with their DCs and PS2s mine have always worked great for years :hmm:

Some of my friends have also had problems with their systems, wether it be a PS2 or X-box (strange that the cube seems to keep ticking). Anyhoo, most of them seem to have their system on the floor as a location for it. I AM NOT AN EXPERT but maybe this is causing the unit to pick up more dust and crap than if it was in a higher place. Just an idea. Are you placing the DC on the floor? Maybe try setting it on top of the TV or something. I have a total of 7 systems and none have ever given me problems. I always keep them away from the floor, except for the cube, which belongs to my son and the ground is the safest place for it for now.

Placing systems on the floor can make it attract more dust, and if you've got carpeting, then that can also cause your systems to get warmer as it blocks air flow. As for why the Gamecube lasts longer, suffice it to say that Nintendo just builds better hardware (PS2 DRE lawsuit anyone?). I've never heard of anyone getting DREs with a Cube.

My GCN has been problematic ever since I got it brand new. It's frequently frozen on me and often makes loud clicking noises during gameplay. All my discs are in perfect (all bought new) condition.

My PS2 which I've had almost as long as my GCN has never frozen on me once, always reads discs (PS2, PSX, DVD, CD-R and sometimes CD-RW's!) no matter how scratched they are.

Can't have them all be perfect, but you have to admit that the big N knows their stuff when building stuff. I once dropped the cube from about 4 feet up while playing and the freaking thing KEPT PLAYING!!

I am buying an X-box soon, so I am hoping I have no problems with it.
