View Full Version : Anyone else ever find the ring dispenser in Sonic CD?

I'm just curious if I'm the only person who ever found the "ring dispenser" in Sonic CD. I came across it during my original playtime with the game (ie; when it was new), and always planned on sending it in to EGM for a free game. Months went by, and I put it off. Months turned into years, and I finally figured it was too old to get me a free game anyway, so I let it be.

Just the other day, I thought about it again, and how I never saw it listed in any "easter eggs" guides for Sonic CD. I did some searching, and I can't find a match for this on Google, and none of the walkthroughs I scanned had any info on it.

Did anyone else ever find this? If you did, you know what I'm talking about. If no one else has come across it, then I'll spill the beans.

I've played that game hundreds of times, and I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Please share. :)

I would assume that the "ring dispenser" is some kind of infinite loop where you can get an endless supply of rings. I believe that I found it too, way back in the day, but I'm not sure. It's been ages since I've played SonicCD.

Look around in Wacky Workbench. I can't remember which act. Towards the bottom of the level, there is a small alcove to the left of one of the electric "springs" (the electrified floor sections that shoot you back up). It's not very apparent (obvously). If you get in there, there is a statue that shoots out rings. Some princess, as I recall. You can get up to 50 at a time, then you have to go out and reenter.

I'll play this again tomorrow and find it for more details. The last time I went through that stage was about a decade ago, so the details are a little sketchy.

BTW, the statue changes to Robotnik in a bad future version, and puts out spiky bombs instead of rings...at least, that's what I remember.

I've heard of it before, but have no memory of where. I know I've seen a picture of the Robotnik statue, though. So cool. 8-) Coulda been on the SSRG, though that's long gone from its former glory...

Okay, I found it again. It was a pain in the ass because neither of my Sonic CD's were in their cases! I don't know where one is, and the other turned out to be still inside an unused Sega CD2.

Anyway, it's on Wacky Workbench stage 1 (or is it Act 1?), in either the past or bad future stages. The layout for the present and good future are different, and I can't find a path.

To get there, just go right as you normally would. Take the lifting platforms up high enough that you can pass over the big divider, then backtrack a little on the right side of the divider. When you see the "snake blocks" (four blocks that follow each other in snake style patterns), start dropping down. Go to the part where the "snake blocks" actually start (no more to the left, and drop down the cliff. You'll fall down and hit a curved ramp, which will direct you right and into a speed shoes power up. Stop there. Go halfway back up the ramp and in.

It'll make more sense with the pics.

Yup, seen that before. It was actually in one Sonic CD appeciation page, along with its coordinates in debug mode. (It's somewhere around here (http://www.google.com/search?&q=%22sonic+cd%22+workbench+statue).)

Well I never saw that statue before. Thanks for the pics.

There was a girl named Zero Chan who devoted a couple pages on her personal website to Sonic CD. It was great reading, and also included a part about the statue from the Workbench stage. It's not too easy to find, but those stages are so large that I'm sure some secrets have never been found.

It is indeed a shame that the game doesn't seem quite finished in some ways. For instance, there's no true bonus for collecting all the Time Stones, and only cosmetic changes result if you destroy the Metal Sonic hologram in the Past on each level.

Would anyone happen to have a link to a page with the original Japanese music? Apparently only the Past themes are the same in all versions; the Japanese version used remixes of the Past music for the Present and Good/Bad future. (I'm rather fond of the Wacky Workbench Past music. I dream of remixing it myself someday.)

I have some of the japanese music, but not all. It would be cool if someone had it handy, because you could remake the US version with the "correct" soundtrack (no copy protection to deal with)

Or someone could do this and post the image/iso.
