Hi, I've recently found I've an Asian Sega Megadrive sitting in the cupboard at home. I've not used it for almost 8 years but when I linked it up to the TV and I saw Sonics wagging finger it almost brought a tear to my eye.

Anyway, I can't play this thing because it looks like the controller ports have stopped working. I've tried 3 different joypads but to no joy. I even bought a tried and tested one from the shop but that didn't work.

Is this a common problem in Megadrives? Is there anyway to repair them?

This is going to sound really messed up, but it's worth a try. When I bought my Sega Master System I had the exact same problem w/controller port 1. Port 2 worked fine but port 1 just wouldn't work. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I took the entire system apart, took the mother board out and flipped it upside down so I could see where controller port wires were soddered into the motherboard. I took a regular ol hammer an gently tapped the sodder spots at the bottom. When I put it back together everything worked fine, it's possible there's some corrosion in the port wires that connect it to the mother board, it's also possible that one of the sodders has come loose.

I'm not aware of it being a common problem, but if all else fails, I could be interested in either buying the non-working unit from you or trading it for a standard PAL Mega Drive?
