I've really hit it hard again with my addiction to GBA games. Since there are not enough quality DS games right now, I've been playing Zelda the Minish Cap, Super Mario Advance 4, Metal Slug Advance and various other quality GBA games. But the DS has started to bother me. Sure, the fact that it CAN plany GBA games is great. But, here are the things that bother me:

-Button mapping for GBA games - Though I get used to it, I think that the system would be better if they had given you the choice for mapping buttons. Being stuck with the positioning of B & A on the DS is not a comfortable as say, Y & B would have been

-The DS Speaker can often be heard "capping" when playing GBA games. This never happens to me during DS game play.

-The screen that's not being used can be a distraction, not because there's anythiing on it, but smudges and small scratches are very obvious on the DS screen when it is off. Probably doesnt bother too many people, but it gets me a little.

Though I actually prefer the GBA player to any of the methods of GBA gameplay, this poll is strictly as to wether or not you like it on the GBA / GBA SP better or worse than on that of the DS. I've separated GBA from GBA SP to address the hand confort issue as well.

Of the handheld methods, I like my Afterburner modded GBA the best - the lit screen quality is just as good as the SP and the confort for holding it is top notch. The only thing that it does not have is the screen protection of the SP or the DS which can be a problem if you need to shove it into you pocket or bag in a jam - because of this I opt for the SP even though I like the original GBA feel much better.

I'm going to have to go with GBA SP. It's more compact!

Nothing. But you can always switch between the top or the bottom screen for which one you want to use.

oooh sexy!

i thought it might possibly display like the game name youre playing, or possibly a little bit of info about it, similar to what the GC does on the bios screen...

For GBA games, definately my SP. I love all my Gameboys, my DS, and my Gameboy Player. I just like my SP for the nice compact size for packing around to play anywhere I have spare time or am stuck waiting.

For older eyes like mine I prefer the clarity of the DS.
I do not, however, like the "feel" of the small buttons on the DS, and on my recent trip I ended up taking the SP due to size and convenience.
It's pretty much a tossup.

DS .

Once you see GBA games on a back-lit screen there is no going back to that ugly washed out front-lit SP. :puke:

DS all the way. The lighting is beautiful, and it's much easier on my hands than the tiny SP. I've never had any problems with the button layout, either.

If I'm moving around definately the DS. It's screen is just so much nicer than the SP's. But if I'm just lyin on the couch I'll use the Gameboy Player.

as much as i like the nice lighting on the DS, its just too large and cumbersome compared to the light weight sp.

The DS. Only because I can use it in the car while wearing my sunglasses. With the GBA and SP I can only see half of the screen cause it's all black, and it only happens when I wear my sunglasses.

After making this poll, I read some of your comments and, for the first time, did a side by side comparison with my GBA SP and my DS. Each system's screen was graced with the likes of Zelda - The Minish Cap.

WOW. The DS screen is beautiful in comparison. I never noticed how cloudy and washed out the SP image looks in comparison. (I did this comparison after playing Zelda on my GB player for the last 3 hours). I wish I had my afterburner mod so I could do a Side, by Side, by Side taste test.
