So EA's going to create their own original characters for this? Color me extremely opposed to that idea. What was the last big hit EA released with ORIGINAL (non-licensed) characters in it? It's probably going to boil down to 'urban-rap-man' and shit like that.

Give me a friggan break - EA is gonna try to jump into Capcom and SNK's arena and I can tell you it won't work, EA couldnt make a good game other than sports titles if there lives depended on it

I'm not to hip on the idea of 'original characters' from EA either.
Why can't we get Marvel Vs. Capcom Vs. Sammy?

Maybe it was in a dream...

We had a topic on this a few months ago...I'm pretty sure most people disliked the idea. EA doesn't have any strong characters at all - what experience do they have with creating memorable fighters? Capcom is the one that is king of that field; the success of Marvel vs. Capcom had much more to do with Capcom's prowess at fighting games than it did with Marvel's characters. Remove them from the equation and what do you have? Not much.

For some reason I'm reminded of the old Jaguar Game "Atari Karts". Trying to make a successful game like Super Mario Kart, Atari released this racing game for the Jag that had all these characters in it as if they were stars of other Jaguar games. All the style of licensed characters without the substance. Sounds like EA's going to try the same thing. -_-
Just got MvC2 last week for my Dreamcast and it's pretty great. So what I'd like to know, and what this article doesn't state is: 2d or not 2d? That is the question. Hasn't Sony implemented some sort of no-2d policy for developers (excluding retro compilations)? Does that mean there will be no release for PS2 - largest console base - unless Sony wants to bend its rules? The MvC series works very well as a 2d game and they shouldn't go messing with a good thing. I've got a feeling this game is gonna blow :puke:. An embarassment to both EA and Marvel, whose poor characters are getting whored out enough these days....

That sony 'rule' is complete BS. Alien Hominid ring a bell? I know there are also a few other games as well. It would be 2D, you cant do a GOOD vs. game in 3D.

As much as we like to bemoan EA around these parts, you can't deny they've been releasing incredibly fun games as of late. Burnout 3, Stranger's Wrath, NBA Street 3, Sims 2, etc. etc. I doubt this will be any different. <you may now re-commence with the needless EA bashing>

Great, just what we need, Hulk VS Shaq & Spiderman VS Michael Jordan! Or maybe we'll get to match up Wolverine against the Michigan Wolverines! Yeah, this game is gonna go down in history as yet another of EA's many pathetic attempts to make a game that isn't a sports game. They haven't made a decent fighter since Budokan, and they never will again either. Whatever it ends up being, it'll be absolute rubbish, and all the licensed Marvel characters in the world won't be able to save it from totally sucking. Marvel is probably only doing it to get more money to sue people anyway.
BTW, speaking of lawsuits, I honestly thought that this thread was gonna be about some cool new Marvel VS City of Heroes game. I dunno who actually makes City of Heroes, but I'd much rather play a game like that than this crap. Marvel would be much better off settling their lawsuit by making the makers of CoH make a game like Marvel VS CoH than getting in bed with EA. Don't they even realize that any non-sports EA game spells F-A-I-L-U-R-E? Or do they even care if they tarnish their soiled reputation even further? Yeah, The Incredible Hulk VS Hulk Hogan, it's the fight of the millennium... NOT!
EDIT: Why do I always confuse Budokan with Bushido Blade? D'OH!

Am I missing something? :hmm:
The Gamespot article makes it pretty clear that EA and Marvel are working very closely on this, that EA is making a whole new line of superheros to use in both print and game form with Marvel, and that it's going to be a print and game joint effort.
I think it sounds allright to me -- even has (gasp) potentinal! :D

Color me skeptical. I havn't seen one fun EA game to play, ever. They're also not as creative as the article would like you to believe.

So you're telling me, out of all of THESE (http://games.ign.com/objects/025/025025.html) games, not one you thought was fun? Maybe you've picked the wrong hobby?

OK, what's up with the lists on that page? There's a few games there that I'm sure were never released in the US, and there's a few games missing too.
3DO:
Seawolf SSN-21 ? Where can I get that? Is it an import?
Genesis:
Galahad (AKA: Legend of Galahad) ? Why isn't it on the list?
Saturn:
Battle Garegga ? Import only, but made by EA, where is it?
Blue Sky, Crimson Warriors ? Where the hell was this released?
Extreme Pinball ? Where can I get this for Saturn? I'd kill for this on Saturn!
Rabbit ? What the hell is that? I've never heard of this at all!
There may be other errors/omissions, but these are the really glaring ones. Can anybody enlighten me? I'd really like to find some of these EA games!

This is just EA doing what EA does copying anything that had any previous success and trying to take over the genre all together.
screw EA :P this is one gamer thats fed up with them in just about everyway.
Sure Burnout 3 rules but hey this was a game franchise looong before EA PUBLISHED the game they did not MAKE the game the original developers that created the first 2 actually made the game and acclaim just published the previous ones.

It doesn't take much talent or imagination to publish a fun game. But how many great, innovative games has EA developed in the past few years.
I can't wait for this game though btw, John Madden and Tiger Woods vs. Blanka and Ryu. Why can't love that match up?

Whatever happened to waiting until you played a game before you bash the hell out of it. I dislike a lot that EA has done as much as the next guy, but I at least still keep my eyes open and gice things a chance. Those of you saying EA has never made a good original game need a history lesson. Maybe nothing lately, but they have been around for a LONG time, and made some great (yes great) games. Recently, aside from the sports stuff I don't care for, they at least get some credit for Burnout 3. An extremely addictive game which a decent soundtrack to boot.
I am interested in this new game by EA. Granted I havent goten a new EA title since Bettle Adventure racing was released, so I know nothing of there current ability.
Hopefully it will be a great 2d fighter. Lately theres been a real lack of those. Hell the last great 2d fighter IMO was Guilty Gear X2 and that was realeased more then a year ago.
Heres hoping for the best. :)

They should scrap this game and make Zany Golf 2 instead. That's what people want.

Once again, I ask people to READ THE ARTICLE. EA is working with Marvel to design ALL NEW CHARCTERS. There will be NO ONE FROM PREVIOUS GAMES HERE! x_x

Well I would rather just see more capcom characters again but whatever. I'm surprised to hear they're creating their own characters. I'm kinda disappointed though, I was hoping to be venom and rip apart nazi's, sports stars and ghetto car wiz carlos telling me how to make my ride fly and hit phat drifts.

I like Ultima Online, but they just squeezed it out of Origin.
Other than that, I've played a lot of those and just... No.
There are some so-so (VERY FEW) in the ones they have published, but NONE in the ones they made themselves.
(No, The Sims is a horrible game.)
