I had an idea reading This Post (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=568524#568524) that people might like a "Custom" Mame Front end to some degree for thier cabinets. Now...I've been looking into little things to do that I could make some degree of Money off of.... Websites Take too long and are not worth the money I'd charge to put myself into.... and I don't draw good enough to do Art Commisions.

HOWEVER... if I were to look into making a working MAME Front end Beta and prove I could make one....(Then I'd have the code... and just laying it out differently to each persons specs would be easy...)

How much would you pay for a Custom One...with Graphics .. a title...and layout and features to your liking?

I'd think 5 bucks for a premade one..... and 15 bucks for a custom one would sound good.. but the problem is...

Would you buy it?

And..for some god awful reason I need to tell you what a front end is .. XD It's like MAME32 or similar that allows you to graphically change settings for MAME...which..in it's barebones form is command line based.

EDIT: I'm not saying I can DO this now....I'am saying I'd give it a go to see if I can...I've made minor front ends before for stupid little DOS Programs before for my personal use.. I'm not some 1337 coder as the "Program" I use to make programs isn't a REAL Programming language... but can put out stuff on the same quality as any real language. I'd just like to know peoples intrest in it before I put a lotta work into something. :-)

I wouldn't.

Not to rip on you or anything, because I'm sure you would make a quality product, it's just that there's practically every frontend for every facet of MAME that's already out there. Why would I pay to have a custom frontend, when I can already download something for free that does what I want it to do anyways?

Just my two kroners.

I dunno..because having a Front end that matches your MAME Cabinet Visually is appealing? ^^;;

I know I'd like that at least.

Like I said. Just checking. :-). So far...I'm not gonna bother.

I wouldn't either.

One, there are literally dozens if not more free front ends already available for free.

Two, it would have to have unique features that those don't offer.

Three, the sales pitch of your skills wasn't very good. Most people who have built their own MAME cabs are already tinkerers who are good at figuring stuff out.

PS: Almost every MAME front end lets you drop your own background graphic into it. Making one match your cabinet isn't that hard.

As well as agreeing with what others have said here, I'd also like to add that the MAME license pertaining to usage strictly prohibits using it to make a commercial product, without their written consent.

MAME was made possible not just by the core development crew, but also by a LOT of folks who contributed their own code freely. Trying to cash in on it would be a great disservice to them, and to the community in general, I feel.
