I was just listening to the ocarina of time orchestrated sound track and thought to myself how amazing it would be to see Koji Kondo live in concert and perform these songs. So i was going to ask if koji ever play's concerts or anything like that? I would love one day to see him live, i know it would probably require flying to Japan, but im sure it would be definetly worth it. I remember hearing that he does'nt play live much and only did the zelda songs as like a one time thing, is this true?

Theres a Nintendo Big Band Live CD out that I believe Kondo AND Miyamoto performed in. It was recorded at some special Nintendo event I guess. Pretty Recent too.

Koji Kondo is one of the best video game composers in my opinion, though I'm not really sure if he performs. You hear the Super Smash Bros. Melee and the Mario and Zelda Big Band music right here:

The songs are located in the right column.
:) Enjoy!

seeing an orchestrated videogame concert would send chills down my spine. Can anyone imagine FF7's J-E-N-O-V-A ? omg....

Too late. Nobuo Uematsu held an FF concert in California a few months ago, and Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yoshitaka Amano were also on hand (they did play J-E-N-O-V-A, by the way). Now, the Chicagoland Pops are going on a Square Enix supported tour playing FF music, but Nobuo Uematsu isn't conducting it.

I don't think that you are thinking of the same CD that comes to mind for me. Last year with an issue of Nintendo Power, they gave out a CD called "Smashing Live." It was performed by the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and it's the soundtrack to SSB Melee. Great stuff.

If Koji Kondo put on a concert anywhere in or near the state of Michigan(can't imagine WHY he'd do such a thing, but still...), I would most certainly do everything within my power to attend.

Uematsu didn't conduct that concert either. He was present at the concert and briefly introduced, but that's about it.

However, I know there's been at least one Black Mages show with Uematsu and other Square musicians, but from what I've heard, the performance was pretty lame. They make mistakes constantly. Uematsu isn't an especially skilled musician to begin with (no formal training or anything), so it doesn't surprise me that he would have trouble performing live (same goes for his band mates). Really, out of all the video game composers in the industry, I'd say only a handful are able to put on a quality live show (Koji Hayama, Motoi Sakuraba, etc.)

Just to avoid any confusion, this is the Big Band Live CD:

And if any of you are interested, you can buy it from that site and have 25% of the profits go to helping tsunami victims. ^_^

Ah, my mistake.

And, yeah, I've seen photos from a Sakuraba concert. That guy can put on a show.
