I just wanted to pass along some good news. On my website I devote some space to a series of custom maps I created for Advance Wars 1 & 2 on GBA. Now that I'm back online (thanks to a new cable modem), I have several new multiplayer maps to show off and share.

Each page describes what the level is about, some points of interest, and closeup photos. Everyone is free to copy them for their own use, but the only way you can do this is to copy the maps by hand. I promise it'll be worth the effort.

In any case, here are my latest Advance Wars 4-player maps:

"Drink and Drown" (http://www.danielthomas.org/pop/videogames/awmaps_page05.htm) - Epic sea battles across oceans and a number of building-rich islands.

"Kill the Swiss" (http://www.danielthomas.org/pop/videogames/awmaps_page06.htm) - Crowded urban warfare, with city streets, mountains, and forests. Bases are scattered in all directions, giving this map that Robotron sense of terror.

"Flatland Bums" (http://www.danielthomas.org/pop/videogames/awmaps_page07.htm) - A series of crazy rivers and lakes seperate the players into seperate nations. There are beaches on all sides, submarines prowl about, and the enormous Island of Mystery beckons.

I hope you enjoy looking at and playing with these. Enjoy.

I'm afraid you can't, unless someone were to host save files on their website. I don't expect that sort of thing to happen, since Nintendo has been very aggressive in protecting their intellectual property rights.

No, the maps I create for Advance Wars can only be copied by hand, which means that you have to click for the closeup of the map, and then grab a pen and paper and get to work. I know it's hard work, especially the way I design levels (I'm always thinking this could get me paying work), but I think it's worth it in the long haul.

There was a website that once hosted user AW maps, and it was an excellent site with some great maps (although my maps destroy them all). Unfortunately, Nintendo shut them down, and that was the last anyone had heard of them.

Thank you for posting your creations. I shall have to try them out when I get the time. Advance Wars forever!

By the way, any rumors on a new Wars game from Nintendo?

Nintendo, for the most part, is cracking down on sites that host the ROMs/ Game Images. They aren't going to go after you for hosting a few save files. Just like all of the IPS patches that have been distributed through direct links on this forum, it's just a file that would modify the rom IF you had it. a .sav file isnt going to get you in trouble, especiallly if it's just a few advance wars maps. copying them by hand?

You know, that's not a bad idea. I'll ask around and see if that's something I can do. I do have copies of the save file as a personal backup (3 save files, my ass!), so this would be doable. Damn, something like this could really work....

...Okay, stupid question time. If I were to have downloads, how would I do it? Do I just put the save files in a .rar file and upload that to the server?

Attention! Great news, everybody!

All of my AW2 Custom Maps are now available for download. The save files can be downloaded from each map's page, and should work with your emulator.

You are all free to share these Map Packs with anyone you wish, or host on your own websites. Thanks to everyone for giving me that necessary push, and, again, enjoy. Happy Valentine's!
