Is there any way to tell the difference between the 2 different versions without looking at the startup screen.

I assume you mean the orginal non Classics version?

Other than the title screen, i believe some of the bosses in the game are changed.

I am looking to buy one of the originals and I remember the Marvel Lawsuit forced sega to make changes to the characters and i am trying not to have to buy multiply carts to find the one. Thanks, for your input.

I'm 90% sure the ORIGINAL has zero copyright information at the beginning. You see no mention of Batman, and no mention of Spiderman at all.... Only when you meet them.

When I played the game I thought the bosses payed more than a passing resemblance to Spiderman, Batman and of course Godzilla, etc. But that's all I though they were... intentional resemblances. Because there is no mention of them anywhere besides the visuals.

I'd like to confirm.. but my Genesis Revenge of Shinobi cart I bought the week of it's release is back at home a couple thousand miles away and I haven't touched it in years and years.. x_x

I've seen screenshots of RoS where "Godzilla" is without skin.

I've bought two copies of this game and both have (luckily) been the very first edition.

The original has no copyright message on the title screen. It also has the real Spider-Man and Godzilla. The "Batman" boss isn't really him.

The rerelease has a copyright message and Spidey's gone. Worse, Godzilla is now a skinless dino.

My copy mentions Spiderman before the game's intro.

I just checked mine...on the title screen it says "Sega 1989/Yuzo koshiro(?) 1989" is this the original, unedited version? It didn't mention spider-man or anything beforehand.

Isn't there a version with Clint Eastwood and Flash Gordon in it? Or was it Eastwood playing Flash Gordon?

The greatest hit version changed the flamethrower guys to look less like Rambo by giving them bald heads.
