evert ry this on ebay? that seems to be a good trend in topics...
find a user that buys good stuff all of the time(like when they out bid you at the last minute, then you check their feedbacks to see what other cool stuff theyve won)
then you go find the active auctions theyve bid on...and buy all the cool stuff theyve spent hours searching for?
i call it stalking...i used to do it a lot long ago...

Wow. I can honestly say I have never even THOUGHT about that... because I don't "hold grudges" like that... that's a little crazy for my blood...
When I first used eBay in 1999 however, I remember the first time I was sniped. I was a green rookie back then and I emailed the sniper saying "Damn it! I can't believe you got me in the last minute! DAMN!"
He replied something like "sorry man, but that's how you get shit done on eBay."
Since then, I've been a sniper as well. I never get angry at eBay any more... I snipe and put in my max. If I was beaten, cool, as I wouldn't have paid more, so I'll just wait patiently for the next time it comes on eBay....
EDIT:
BTW, you mentioned active auctions they've bidded on so you can outbid them. Well, if they're smart they'll snipe and that will be their 1st and only bid, therefore, it would be impossible for you to know which active auctions they're bidding on until it's too late. If someone snipes you, I'm willing to bet they're the kind to NEVER bid with like 4 days to go.
Snipers are snipers....

LOL, ive done that a few times. watch an item for 7 days, get outbid in the last 10 seconds by this person, see what else theyve been bidding on/won, and attempt to outbid them on something else :P

make no mistake, this is not an anger thing. its more of a means to find rare or cool video game stuff you might never have found otherwise.
and, though it has been several years and was long before i found this website, i can say i did used to stalk Portnoyd.
i have, and am sure others have too, bid an opening bid so i can watch something in the 'items im bidding on' area...

WHY???? More importantly, was the item something you wanted, or did you just try to price jack/outbid him just for the "revenge" factor?
I admit when I first came to eBay I did some price jacking on purpose.
But then I stopped because I realized it was:
a. immature
b. stupid
Besides, karma always comes back to bite you in the end if you're just screwing around....

There's "Items I'm Watching"
You don't have to make an opening bid...

I used to bid once and then make sure I was online counting down the last few seconds ready to snipe at the last minute, but that got tedious after a while, and had it's problems...
A) If multiple auctions were finishing simultaniously, then it was impossible to bid on all at the same time
B) Had to make sure I was awake at all hours
C) Became a problem if internet connection was down
D) Became a problem if internet was slow...
Until a few months ago when I stayed in on a bank holiday to bid on a Sealed Samba De Amigo box set... I waited, and waited, and then put in my bid at the last minute, only to find that my bid of £250 was sniped by someone else...
From that moment on I decided to pay the extra money per month to use HammerSnipe... (I used to use it occasionally for free)
Seriously, it pays for itself!
So now, I just put in an early bid (Usually a low one, or the very first bid) and then list it into HammerSnipe along with my max bid. It's way better than using eBay's gay proxy bidding.
If I lose out then I don't get upset as I know I have done the same as I would had I been bidding in person - Except I know I didn't wast my time sitting there waiting... Plus I don't even have to remember about the auction until I have won it.
I check out what other people bidding on stuff that I want are also bidding on... sometimes I'll miss something cool, or a misspelling or something, but the rival bidders find it, so, then it goes onto my watch list too :) . I haven't found too much using this method, but it is worth doing.
