I'm here just to note my displeasure again of the lack of King in KoF '02.
I'll just go back to my KoF '99 and wish she were in the sequels.
...she better sneak into SvC Chaos...

I was thinking about geting another console for my collection I checked prices for Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, Panasonic 3DO and a Neo Geo on ebay. The cheapest Neo Geo I saw was like 210 dollars. And there was like 1 page of 3DO stuff, I think im gonna bid on a Jaguar or Saturn.

Boy I'm glad I built myself a supergun. MVS is the only way to go for those of us who happen to dabble in other expensive hobbies (prototype collecting anyone?). Actually these things seem to be more expensive than most prototypes... :)

No regrets here either going MVS. I really think unless you are going for the collecting aspect or just have money to burn, the homesystem is really kind of pointless. I just want to play the games, so it's MVS all the way for me.

Artwork.
But MVS is awesome and I'm glad I have the option to get certain games for MVS, like Metal Slug. Certain games though, I want to have on homecart.

I was happy when King wasn't in KOF 2k2...the damn girl barely changed from KOF 94. Granted, you could say the same about Athena...but I think even she went through more differences over the years.
DC one better have the few characters they left out of the neo cart version. I wants to see Kasumi tear it up, along with Eiji, and that cheap-ass Krauser.
I've got a dual reason for wanting to collect MVS carts. But that's a story for another day.

I collect MVS and AES (homecart) - so I don't know if I'm lucky or stupid.
Or a little of both...

Frank:
If a system that goes for $200 and stays that way (since eBay the price is determined by demand), what does that tell you? It means the games must be good and people are willing and happy to pay for them. True, you can get 3DO stuff cheap but most games I won't even take them for free (seriously).
For home system, you don't have to necessarily buy new and expensive games, many stellar games can be had for less than $80, I'll pick a few
early KOFs
Fatal Fury Special
Samurai Shodown 1 and 2
Art of FIghting 2
Baseball 2020
Baseball Stars 2

Is it just me, or did anybody else EXPECT that she'd be back by now? Cripes.
She wasn't that well drawn in the early days, but she got a big boost later on. Then...dropped. WTF, Playmore! o_O

OK, just a quick note, Shawn at Neo-Geo.com opened up preorder of SNK vs Capcom Chaos for the console, due for release Dec 11th, 2003. This was originally planned for October but given the arcade is still sucking quarters out of this game, SNK PLaymore had delayed the release, here's the link if interested:

I'll just slip in here and say I picked up a used 3DO and the best 10 or so games for the system for only about $150. The most expensive was Star Control II, everything else I got for $20 or less.
As for buying it, it's just a matter of taste for the games out for it, like any used system.

What can I say, I have this thing for women in suits, I tend to play them as well. Soul Calibur II is getting heavy playtime with me as Ivy...
Apparently King -is- in the DC port of 2002, however very VERY broken. She's overpowered.
...so I need to get it :-D

Nah, I'm still glad I'm going MVS cause I can't AFFORD to go AES, I want to play the games instead of ROMs, and frankly, I have NO room in my entertainment center for the friggin huge AES unit with those monster carts but I found a corner for a candy cab.
Oh...and the homecart Slug 5 art..... *DROOOOOOOOOOL*

OK I love most of SNK's games, I used to walk to the movie theater a few miles away every couple days to play metal slug in the arcade, and I own most the ports on saturn, and dc and whatnot...I been wanting to buy a NeoGeo for a long time now and I know how expensive they run...not to sound silly but what exactly is the difference between an MVS and an AES ??? this always confused me...and I'd like to know before I buy anything :P excuse my stupidity ^_^

MVS: best price (in older releases, anyway), graphics are native RGB (better than anything a stock Neo Geo AES can do, even with an S-Video modification), and stereo sound
AES: The carts look pretty nice on the shelf...early model AES setups have the best video, but rather awful controllers (tabletop, Atari 2600 style) which you can always replace with newer, more conventional controllers.
I only have AES carts (for the time being, that is), but I'm pretty much the only person I know who has made the choice to go with AES over MVS. There's not really any reason to do that, actually; it's all about a sense of aesthetics :P

If I wanted to collect AES, I wouldn't have gotten married and had a kid.
Seriously I have about 15 carts, and I paid for none. They have all come through trades. And I don't even have any AES for trade. Pretty common stuff. I doubt it's something I could pursue much further than trades.
I still won't forget the kid at an Orange County flea 2years back who beat me to a stack of 6 AES games for $7 apiece by about 2 minutes. GRRRR! Wife slows me down when she's pregnant. C'mon honey, walk faster.

Great for that kid, though.
That reminds me: I say that since I'm already paying a premium for Neo Geo games, I might as well get the Japanese versions (which I do).

Those old AES controllers rocked. They were solid, they had a good stick on em, and lets face it-if you're gonna be playing arcade games, an arcade stick is the way to go :P

They sure do rock...back and forth over my leg when I'm trying to play a game of Samurai Shodown 2 (well, really Spirits, but since the AES autotranslates...)
You need a table to rest the controller on, and that's getting to be a bit too much installation for me. I would agree that's the classic way of doing things, though, and best for practicing :)

The insert of the last Neo-Geo game Samurai Shodown 5 Special is revealed
http://www.neostore.com/images/products/releases/ssvs/insert/insert-mid.jpg
This will also mark the last console game (non-portable) on cartridge format, in reality, I'd love to see SNKP making games for Neo-Geo forever, well, nothing can last forever.
Any serious collector/gamer should reserve this game from either Neostore or NCS now.

I am sooooo damned tempted to get this preorder. @_@
I am loving SS1 and 2. I feel I missed out on Slug 5, as it's AES price seems to be rising, and the best deal may have been back when you could get it from the store new. *sigh*
How the hell do I reconcile $520CDN on a game?
Because it's now or never? Because it's the last AES game ever? If I don't buy it new, it'll only go up from there?
How much you wanna bet this will only get one print run?
Anyone know how long the pre-order is likely to stay open?

Everyone I've talekd to that has played Special says it's by far better then Sam Sho 5. Considering 5 is probably the best neo geo fighter available on the AES as it is, that should say something about Special's quality.

What a way to end a system by having a stellar fighting game, unlike most systems which the last batches of games were often low quality, just look at how the last game(s) for PSX will look like.
I'd not be suprised if SNKP comes back to make games for MVS/AES again, given the current popularity of MVS/AES, huge installed base of MVS cabs in SE Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe and they have launched 2 failed systems so far.

It looks like the last two PS1 games released in North America will be FIFA and Madden, which are hardly "low quality." I presume you're referring to the last year or two of PS1 budget releases, many of which have actually been surprisingly decent.

Ok, here's what you're going to do:
You're going to buy it when it's released. You'll take great care of it, and play it for about a month or so. Then you're going to get very, very tired of it. After you grow tired of it you'll actually become resentful towards it. At that point, you will ask, nay, beg me to rid you of the foul thing, and all you will ask for in return is a pile of NES and Genesis systems. I will agree and do you that favor. We will exchange packages and both lead happier, more fulfilling lives because of it.
Hopefully that clears things up for you :D

I recently sold my little Jap Neogeo collection, mainly for $$$ reasons! i'm crazy over the whole KOF series as well as Realbout, they are amazing games! and the 2d graphics are the best!!
Me thinks i'm gunna build me an MVS cab oowweee!! I wish Ninty would buy up SNKP and release at least some of the SNK titles on the GC or GC2..
Peep's would go crazy for all that! imagine metal slug OR KOF 2002 as one the packaged titles for the next Ninty home console!! hmmmmmmmm! I can wish can't I :-P

LOL, i'm a huge fan of SNK but the SNK titles that get ported over to the next gen consoles are sparse at best Metal Slu3 Xbox, FOF 02' and 03' on the PS2 and one crappy SF Capcom Vs. title for the GC that was released a few years back..
(My point being that you have to have all three consoles to play some if not all SNK titles)
If Ninty ever got SNKP ( I can keep wishing ), they'd have to have perfect ports of the SNK titles (if not better) i was less than pleased with the GC Capcom VS.. it was crap! for the GC some of the charactor sprites where terrible!
But i was thinking more from a gamers stand point, having one platform for all the SNK titles, instead one here and one there on different platforms...
If ninty could nail that down that would be a huge hit with Snk / fighter / 2d gamers!!
