Hello everyone,
Question
Being game players and collectors as as most of us are do you ever find yourself questioning whether or not you should buy or play a game that made you feel uneasy. I mean one that made you go Hum I don't know. Or should collectors collect games regardless of a game content. I found myself faced with that decision last year with the game manhunt. Just curious to see if anyone had that feeling like me.

Thanks,
Gepet0

your collection should be based on your personla beliefs. i personally have no problem with any game or content, so pretty much collect whatever. if there is a game you dont feel comfortable owning, dont buy it.

If the morale of your troops is low, it's because they have low Courage and / or Psi ability. Be sure to build a Psi lab in your base and have the X-Com force train there every month (max 10 troops / lab). That way enemy psi-users won't be able to use Fear and / or Control on them during battle.

I wouldn't buy Postal 2, and I was resistant to buying the Guy Game just because it looked so stupid, but I eventually did. I don't have a problem with violence in general, but Postal 2 just seems meanspirited and ugly.

I'm just not really into violent games. I mostly play SMB games and stuff. Right now I'm playing animal crossing. Exceptions are GTA games, Resident Evil games, and World War II-based FPSes. Games like manhunt and postal 2 are nowhere to be found here.

How about does anyone feel bad for buying so many games in general when you could be giving your money to charity?

morale: The state of the spirits of a person or group as exhibited by confidence, cheerfulness, discipline, and willingness to perform assigned tasks.

moral: 1. Of or concerned with the judgment of the goodness or badness of human action and character: moral scrutiny; a moral quandary.

2. Teaching or exhibiting goodness or correctness of character and behavior: a moral lesson.

3. Conforming to standards of what is right or just in behavior; virtuous: a moral life.

Exactly. Some people want every game for a system, others, like me, just want those that are of interest to them. It's all about what you want out of it. Nobody is going to dislike you if you didn't buy the Guy Game (except for the people that produced it :wink 2:

Sometimes I do feel a little uneasy about adding yet another game to the collection of stuff I haven't paid. However, pretty much every game I buy nowadays (and there aren't that many at all lately) is the same price as a good hot lunch. So I have a sandwich instead.

Hmm

I volunteer my time at a local computer recycling project called teamchildren. www.teamchildren.com

Because if my time there I have been given about 30 vintage computer systems and a boxed Sega Genesis mod/rev 1 as well as a R.O.B. and countless other gaming related items.

So it is true what goes around comes around!

Hmm. Seeing Sega games on Sony and Nintendo consoles used to affect my morale.

Oh, I think you're talking about morals. Okay!

I guess I feel that it doesn't matter what you collect. Your collection and you moral values are mutually exclusive. In fact, I have a dozen or so Jesus themed religious games in my collection, but I still don't think that makes me a bad person.

Not really. I don't have a charity underwriting my gaming expenses, so I think I'll use my own money to purchase things for myself. They can eBay all of the cigarette butts I donate to their collections bins and apply that toward their 70% overhead organization. I will be expecting a receipt from them if they do this, as I fully intend to write those butts off as charitable contributions.

I think you need to clarify your position on this.

Some people want to have complete collections for certain game systems, and that means having every game, despite one of them possibly being somewhat evil and twisted.

If you are the type that wants to have every game for a particular system, why not get them all, it doesn't mean you have to play the one that you feel is evil and twisted.

But, if your take is that you don't want to spend money on that evil and twisted game, because by spending money on it, you are supporting those kind of beliefs, well that is a different story.

In that case, I would avoid it.

Also, it depends on whether you take these types of games seriously and literally. For me, a game like San Andreas, I just don't take that type of game seriously, or literally. It's almost like a comedy to me. But I'm sure there are other people that take a game like that totally seriously and literally, and they probably think it's completely dispicable.

Another question you should ask yourself is, do you have the same take when it comes to movies and music? For example. if you don't have a problem with Silence of the Lambs or 8mm, then why have a problem with a game like Manhunt?

I collect just about everything, but even I have limits. For me personally, I want to collect every US NES game. I have a problem with X rated adult oriented games in my house, because of my personal beliefs and that I work with lots of troubled youth(I show them my game room). I have decided to not pursue the panesian games, and feel good about it. I would rather spend the money(which would be a hefty price tag) on others collections. I think if you feel uneasy about something, dont support it. It is just my opinion.

I have 1 cent left on this.

I have kids under 10 and there is only one game I have that I won't play in front of them and that's BMX XXX because of the language. As for violent games there is a big distinction on what you are shooting at. But even my 6 year old knows it's all not real. Sniping an ICP in Tron or someone in Syphon Filter is as unreal as Barney is a dinosaur. And a stealth attack in Mark of Kri where you slice someones head of is a bit graphic but again not real.

My generation growing up in the 60's still played cowboys and indians. I watched alot of westerns when I was six. Sure it wasn't as graphic but the idea was the same.

So now my kids prefer to Fluff Match in Fur Fighters over a Death Match in Brute Force...
