So today I 'm driving through my neighborhood on the way home when I pass a house that has its garbage cans out by the street. Next to the garbage cans on the sidewalk is an x-box. :eek 2:

Now I'm not normally a dumpster diver, but it is an X-Box!!!

Anyway I stop and pick it up and it is clean and in good shape. It has the power cable the rca connectors and the reciever for the remote control plugged into it. There were no controllers or a remote.

I get it home and hook it up and it works great except for the typical disk read error and the DVD tray sticks shut. I opened up the DVD and gave it a good cleaning to no avail.

So today I ordered a new DVD drive on E-Bay for $38.00 shipped . Thus my $38.00 XBox :D

Anyone else ever had a similar thing happen?

Which proves to this day...."One man's trash, is another man's treasure!"

Congrats on the find! :)

Yep! Last summer while my dad and I went yard sale hopping he spotted something small and white on the road.

"It's a dreamcast! Stop."

Sure enough, bare bones dreamcast... although it doesn't work very well... maybe I should look into fixing it.

i found a model 1 genesis in an alley once. it was during a light rain and it was upside down near a puddle. this was when i was first into collecting, so i was thinking 'hey free genesis!'

i took it home and let it sit for a few days to dry out, and there was mud caked on it and everything, but astonishingly the damn thing worked!

i remember hearing about someone(from here maybe?) who found a genesis on the roof of a building...if only our acquired systems could talk...

My first Game Gear used to be my cousin's. My grandad found it (along with four games) in their bin and promptly gave it to me.

It worked perfectly! :D

Until some years later a faulty power adapter short circuited it. :(

A guy down the street from me had a stack of Dreamcasts in his driveway for some reason... I spotted them riding around the block on bikes with my kids. Two weeks later we go back, and they're still there. Another week later, we go back, and they're in thousands of pieces on the road. Some kids must have decided to bust them up.

I would suggest getting a set of torx bits, or a multibit driver type thing, as there are a few different sized ones you will be dealing with. I think Torx 10 and 15, but I can't remember.
