I know, I know...what a tragedy. I'm not really missing out on anything, but I'm still kinda confused. I picked up a top-loader this weekend, and it runs everything perfectly except for BA. Could it be the unlicensed-ness? Or perhaps something else? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The Toploader has no lockout chip so BA might be stuck in a routine looking for a lockout chip to knock-out. Have you tested the game on an unmodified toaster NES?

Can't say I have...and I'm honestly not sure what you mean by the first thing you said.

I can play Bible Adventures fine on my top loader... try cleaning the game thoroughly

Aren't there several different versions of the game? I know another Wisdom Tree game, Spiritual Warfare, has several versions. Perhaps your copy of Bible Adventures is one of the earliest versions of the game that isn't compatible with a top loader.

The original versions were the blue versions, the newer ones (with the bug fixes) were the black carts FWIW. And I think only the black carts to the flash routine to get around the lockout chip.

There is AT LEAST 4 different versions of bible adventure, but anyway that doesn't matter at all, What does matter is there is no reason for your game not to be working. I suggest a nice hardy sandpaper to the conector pins cleaning. Trust me it works.

Does that actually work??? It sounds pretty dangerous. I clean all my games with Q-Tips dipped in alcohol, and have had a 100% success rate. I have heard that people use erasers to clean NES carts, but never sandpaper.

It'll work but over time you're going to wear away the contacts. If you really want to use sandpaper on the contacts, use at least 1000 grit or finer. Erasers work but I would rather use the least abrasive method (Q-tips and alcohol).

I'm sorry but that sort of statement in the Restoration forum is downright blasphemous. Sandpaper is not the answer no matter what the grit. When you break up the surface of the contacts you're inviting corrosion to seep in even deeper than normal.
Just keep going at it with a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol or a fabric swab and be patient until there isn't any more dirt coming off.
