Ok lately for some reason when I first put in a game the screen stays black while loading, then it goes back to the memory card screen and shows the disc icon...but then I put my PS2 to stand by and take the game out for a second, then turn my PS2 back on and put the disc back in and this time it loads the game prefect, works fine for hours.

Totally confused, want to figure out what is going on?

Thats your dreaded Laser Failure.

Your laser is starting to go dead. You can adjust it with the white cog inside and probably stop it from happpening for a while.

Or you might have to buy a new Laser or send it to Sony , they have been fixing them for free again... :)

You have been yet another victim of the evil corporation known as Sony, please pack your PS2 and send it back to Sony and than purchase a Nintendo console which will last you a lifetime :D

Sorry I just had to :P

First off Sony is notoriuous for using cheap parts so you should've been expecting this. Yes i'm afraid that your drive is slowly passing into the cold chill of the night. However all is not lost as there are several options open to you.

The easist but most expensive, is to just buy a PSTwo. It'll hopefully last longer (although with sony who the hell knows?)

You're second option is to repair the drive. Some parts are available here: http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?nav=left_sub&category=132&PHPSESSID=8b7e2cc604e16124ebcaeef6fe3924f8

Or you can just search for a relacement drive on google and find a decent place to order from.

Sorry but those are pretty much you're opnly options. That's the cost of buying Sony products. You should be more cautious in the future. I myself waited for the PStwo to come out before i bought one. Since i'm not a crazyed FF fan boy the wait was no problem.

Oh and by the way Ernster, i know you were just joking around but in all seriousness Nintendo products don't last you a lifetime. Many NES's have needed to have their socket replaced. So not a lifetime, but at least a decade or 2.

In truth no console will last forever, But sony is just really fucking cheap so always wait a while before buying a new sony product to see if it breaks for other people. I'm waiting atleast a year and a half before getting a PSP.

Sorry videogameking26, looks like you're gonna be out some cash now.

WRONG.

Third option- send your PS2 to Sony for a free repair (except S/H) as mentioned before the Sony-hater's post.

Hey not trying to have a go at you or anything but I have the right to hate Sony or any other company, for whatever reason, and belive me, my reasons are valid.

PS My prevoius post was more of a joke than anything, everyone and there dog knows how poorly made the PS2 is.

Maybe so, but the guy didn't ask "Who hates Sony?" He asked for help and you're shitting on the thread. Either help or move on to another thread. Your opinions may be valid, but they weren't asked for here.

Don't be a HATER
Being a cheerleader for your favorite game or system is encouraged. Being an anti-all-other games or systems basher is not.

That's true, my NES has lasted a lifetime. Unfortunately it's been blinking for most of it.

Off first off i admit that i missed that part in his post. I hadn't heard sony was doing it again. Although the shipping is probably a bitch.

In defense of Ernster, While his post didn't help the situation, he wasn't being anti-all other systems either. He was just reaming sony for the piss-poor quality of the PS2 and then putting in a plug for his perferred company. It's a cheapshot, but it was in jest. Leave it at that. No harm, no foul.

Sniderman is right though about one thing though, stay on topic. I'd pretty much say that videogameking26 has gotten all the help he can. There really is nothing more to say.

The shipping may not be to cheap but it would be cheaper than buying a whole new ps2 again

though i've had mine going over 3 years and not one problem though still wanting to get a pstwo

I recall I only spent $12 to send my PS2 back to Sony when it needed a new drive (due to my own fault) in January of 2003.

OMG SONY IZ TEH S UK BY A XBOXXORZ THEAY R TEH KEWL!!!1one

This is directed at all the people who just talk shit and dont post anything helpful. I would just send it into Sony. I've had my PS2 for around 3 years now, and not one problem. Ever. The only problem I've had was with the controllers.

Thanks guys :)

I think I will probably buy a PsTwo when my taxes comes back because I own over 100+ games for it, not being able to play it will drive me nuts @_@

Yes I do still have my Xbox & GameCube that work prefect, never had a single problem with them...but being a big gamer I will always still need my PS2 too :D

I can relate to something similar.

I just got my PS2 made over into one of those flip top mods, the see through clear shells.

I tested all my PS2 games. ALMOST all of them worked fine. But 2 of them acted funny, I put the CD in, I see the laser shift all the way to the edge of the CD and I hear this thumping sound and the CD stops.

Out of all the games in my PS2 collection, it had be my favorite game to play.....

GUILTY GEAR X2!!!!! WHHYYYYYYY????!!!!!! :( There's a big GGXX tournament coming up in my area this weekend, and I now I can't practice!

And it did the same to my old copy of Guilty Gear X as well.

Now I'm really worried, cuz I got Japanese PS2 Guilty Gear XX#Reload as my very first PS2 import, and that's what influenced me to get the mod in the first place and is it going to do the same to that as well? I hope that flip top mod didn't put a curse on my PS2 to make it reject all things Guilty Gear.

My ps2 has the same problem. It is near impossible to get some of my discs to read now, and I wont be buying a new PS Two at its current price. I played many...MANY hours online with my PS2, clocking in over 4,000 hours in socom (i was ranked 20th in the country), over 1,000 hours with FFXI, and over 500 hours in socom 2. Thats not counting all 70 of my other ps2 games, my ps2 has taken some beating LOL
