View Full Version : My Upcoming Shoutcast Video Game Radio Show

Hey, just thought I'd let some of you know about my upcoming radio show on Shoutcast. Here's my angle: I'm gonna make it sort of a 'Video Game Variety Hour', with music, discussions, banter, co-hosts, reviews, and even a contest. That's right, a contest, for a prize. It's not gonna be expensive or anything, but I think whoever wins it will agree that it's a neat videogame related memento. This variety will also extend to the music played; I'll try to mix it up between stuff like Minibosses, OCRemix, VGMix, Rocked-out Versions, Techno Versions, OSTs, and possibly some stuff you haven't heard. There *will* be a heavy emphasis on requests- feel free to reply to this thread with requests, but only if you're probably gonna listen. I'll try to take requests during the show, too, but beforehand might be better, since I can plan the playlist.
Anyway, I'm gonna be planning for this all week, and I aim to make it pretty damn entertaining! Tune in- I won't let ya down! Here are the details:
What: Gaming Age Radio
When: Debuts Friday, Feb 18th, 7pm-10pm PST
Where: http://gamingage.servegame.com (stream)
http://cvasoc.com/NGI/chat/ (chatroom)
http://kngi.servegame.com (friend's mirror of the stream, if mine gets full, God willing!)
Who: Myself, and 1-2 friends as Co-Hosts- Comin' straight out of... Lynnwood, WA?
Why: Because I want to do justice to the memory of the greatest radio show on Earth, Super Radio X (www.superradiox.com), and because I enjoy entertaining people.
I know some of you might actually be doing stuff on a Friday Night, but if you can listen for even part of the show, I promise it will be worth your while. As I said, a lot of planning will go into this, and judging from the warm reception my test broadcast got, there's a good chance you'll enjoy my DJ-ing. Give me a chance!
I'm giddy right now, so I probably forgot some info... any questions, reply to this thread, or email me at ericface at hotmail dot com. Or hit me up on MSN Messenger or AIM (EricDewd).
(ps- anybody who wants to make a show ident for me, feel free! I'll send you a dollar- no lies!)

Hey, good luck! Due to time zone differences I will probably catch it if I don't get lucky! "Nah babe, I'm heading home to catch an internet video game radio show. See ya!" :)

SOunds pretty rad, but I know I won't be near a computer friday. I really wish I could. YOu should restream it as a rerun at a later time like monday or something. Sounds awesome, good luck!... to the both of you! ;)
Eric Dude

Well, it's going to be recorded, so perhaps I will do a rerun on Sunday or something. We'll see!

A rerun on sunday would be cool because I close on Friday and sort the geo shipment and the store closes at 10...so I usually get home around 11.

Yeah, Hellvin, I guess you'll just miss it... :( Even if I don't officialy air a Re-run, I can always distribute the file to whomever wants it.
Also, good news: My friend Kyle and I decided to pay for a decent server to host our radio shows. So now, Gaming Age will be in high quality sound (80kbps), and can handle up to 40 listeners (shouldn't even need to use the mirror I posted). If you were undecided before, this oughtta be the clincher!

nice idea, I'll be there...if I remember that is. Can we request ANY game music?
Eric Dude
02-16-2005, 08:48 PM
Yep, feel free to request anything. If you request it before the show, I'm sure I can find something from any particular game.
As far as remembering that the show is on, don't worry; I'll post a reminder here on Friday. :)

Alright guys, the show is in 2 hours. Tune in if you can, and don't forget to check the chatroom. It's usually good times in there. I'll start the stream up about 5 minutes before I start the show, just so people can connect.

Got your requests, guys. Thanks! Though I warn you, I'll probably only do 1 request per person, just so everybody gets a shot at it.

Hey, we had a really great turn-out from you Digital Press guys- thanks so much! It meant a lot to me, really! Most of you joined the chat, too, which was awesome.
As you know by now, there was a lot of discussion going. Maybe too much, I dunno. Hopefully, most of it was entertaining. Sorry about my friend's 'weird' comment at the end- it's kind of an inside joke.
As far as call ins, I'm probably gonna get a gadget to take calls and have them heard on the computer. But MSN voice conversations are a possibility (not AIM, cuz I have to close it, due to the damned sounds). I'll test out some MSN Voice chats this week, see how they work.
I was happy to play as many requests as I could, but yeah, I wasn't checking forums during the show. Best bet is to request in forums before the show, or in the chat while the show is running.
Gapporin, you're on. By next show, I'll have some SMS stuff to play.
How long did most of you all listen for?

Sweet.
I was listening to it off and on, but the 80 kbps was too much for my poor modem, and it had to rebuffer every 2-4 seconds. Do you think there's any possibility you could run a low-bandwith server along with a high-bandwith server? You gotta show some love for the 56'kers. :(
Other than that, I was really digging it. Good work!
Eric Dude

Wow, I didn't even think of that aspect. Sorry about that, man. Next time, I'll have my friend run a mirror if he can, at something like 42 kbps... is that slow enough for 56kers?

Usually I can listen to a 32 kbps stream with no problem.

Haha, oh man! I even thought of Sonic when I was planning the discussion for the show! I guess the fact that I never had a Genesis as a kid biased my memory- sorry guys!
BTW, I'm going to re-run the show tomorrow at 5pm-8pm PST. Hopefully some of you who missed it can tune in then. Feel free to pop into the chatroom, http://cvasoc.com/NGI/chat/, while you're listening. I'll be in there, and hopefully others will too. Oh, and if you wanna use IRC to chat, it's #ngi on Esper.net.
edit: Sorry, 'tomorrow' actually means today, Sunday.

For anybody who feels liike listening to VG Music on Mondays, rather than Friday, my friend Kyle runs a show on the same stream, at the same time. The main differences between our shows is that he goes for 4 hours, and he tends to be 'less talk, more rock'. He really doesn't discuss videogames much, like I do, and he tends to play strictly rock versions of gaming tunes. If that's up your alley, be sure to check him out tonight. Again, that's 7pm PST at gamingageradio.servegame.com.
Also, I'm working on my 2nd show coming up on Friday, so if you have requests, post 'em here! Thanks guys!
