I’m sure there has been a thread on this before but I sure couldn’t find it.
What DC games have some sort of "on the road" VMU support? I’m especially hoping for an RPG so I can develop my character while I should be working. 8-)

Skies of Arcadia. My flatmate raved about this for ages, as it meant he could carry on playing the game whilst on the bus in and out of work :)

Tech Romancer and Sega GT both have downloadable VMU games. Sega GT's game allows you to accumulate credits which can be used in the main game.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 both allow you to download Chao to your VMU, which acts like a virtual pet.

I wish they had put some sort of rechargable battery into the VMU....

The idea of having to buy extra batteries for it constantly sort of killed the "gaming on the go" functionality for me.

I did enjoy messing around with the Chao from SA1 though.

I do belive you could raise your own zombie in Zombie revenge. Then you could load it into the game, and then I don't know what happens after that.

I had fun with the Chao Adventure from SA1.

I have the same complaint about the battery life. At least it still functions as a memory card when there's not enough power to use the VMU outside of the controller.

Same thing with the Pocketstation, that battery died so quick. Even though there were only like 3 US games that supported the pocketstation (Crash Bandicoot something, R4 & FF8) the japanese support was pretty cool. The Megaman remakes (the NES games that got individual make overs and rereleases on JP PSone) had some great pocket station stuff.

So when your Battery dies, does the chao die along with it?

I remember finding a site full of VMU games you could download via the dreamcast onto your VMUs. I believe people still make VMU games.

If you get your zombie to a certain level, it unlocks cheats like unlimited ammo.

That's a cool feature!

Time Stalkers has six different VMU games you can play, including a Rogue-like dungeon crawler. It's pretty good.

The original Power Stone had 3 different VMU games I believe. The only one I remember involved throwing ninja stars. I believe Jet Grind Radio also had some sort of feature where you could swap graffiti or something.

I used to play minitetris on mine, homebrew game. Both the official and homebrew games are pretty cool.

is there any possible way to load the homebrew apps on nowadays with the internet for dreamcast down? i was thinking that there should be a homebrew bootable cd which allows you to upload these games to your vmu!

I think the namco collection had a pac-man minigame you could download to the VMU.

You could also download .jpeg files unto your VMU using Jet Grind Radio's built in web browser (which was just DreamKey with a frontend, but I digress), and then use them as graffiti in the game. There's nothing quite like graffitiying the whole town with SMS graphics.

There are free ISPs you can use with the DC still (granted you have dialup access):

http://www.consolevision.com/members/fackue/internet.shtml

Then, using your favorite web browser of choice, you can point your DC to a web site that has VMU files for download, and then download them directly to your VMU (Although, I would love to see VMU games on a homebrew disc. There's something like this with the VMUCrap series, but not quite the same thing).

Trickstyle has a very basic "snake" game, if you want to give that a try.

There are some discs out there that let you do some stuff with the VMUs, noteably "VMU crap vol 1-3" or something. Dunno if it actually saved them to the card or not...i vaugely remember them playing little movies on your VMU.

And if you want your DC to get online without the free ISP thing, there are ways to share your broadband connection over a 56k modem to your DC.
